What front rim width for Boxster "square" setup?
Looking to verify front rim with for the Boxster "square" setup with 255 tires all around. Can you do it with the stock 7.5" rims (17")?
Have searched everywhere - seems as most of the discussions are on Brad Roberts closed site. Any input would be helpful, thanks.

Per Spec Boxster rules: (NASA)
11.1 Wheels

• Rear 17x 8.5 inch- 20 lbs minimum - 48-50mm offset
11.2 Tires
Toyo R-888
• Front: 225x45x17
• Rear: 255x40x17
PCA rules(if running with PCA):
Front wheels may be either 17 x 7 inch, 55 mm offset, or the same size and offset as the rear wheels (17 x 8.5 inch, 48-50 mm offset)
Tires: Toyo R888 front 225/45-17 or 255/40-17; rear 255/40-17

I run the square setup on my BSR. 17x8.5 stock rims all the way around.

Thanks, guys.
So I need an 8.5" rim for the fronts.
BTW- this is just a double duty track car, so don't have to abide by rules. I just like the square setup with being able to rotate all four corners, don't have to carry two different sizes, etc.

You'll need a small 5-7mm spacer to avoid rubbing thru the wheel well liner. I also rolled the fender a little. I believe most of us run the second hole on the lower control arm to reduce castor, also helps with clearance. Don't get replica wheels.

In terms of stagger, it has always been a Porsche thing to run wider rears than fronts. Sure this was borne from years of rear engined experience, but what about the Boxter/Caymen layout? I run square 275 on my 951 but that is a totally different beast. Once setup correctly it works very well, but would you not possibly be inducing some oversteer into a Boxter with a square setup?

I drive a 2.5L Boxster that runs 16X10" wheels with 11.0/25.0-16 Avon slicks as a square setup so I think it will all just come down to how much or it all you want to roll the fenders. 8.5" wide wheels with a 255 will work with the right offset wheel and camber on a stock car but if you are not governed by a rules set, you can go bigger if you wanted to.

Patrick - a lot of the Boxster Spec guys are running 255s all around on the 8.5" rims.
Evan - I'm not planning on going wild with this, but do like a square tire setup for the track.
Consolidated - thanks, good info.
