racing?
PCA, NASA, whatever floats your boat........
The cost has got to be the same, the fun factor in racing exponentially more......
What is holding people up from jumping to the other side![popcorn](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/popcorn.gif)
Disclosure: my first year of DE I did like 30 day, lots of fun, but no comparison to racing even once or twice a year...........(just my opinion)

Cost is not the same, nor is the level of commitment. And maybe the need to pass every single car that you get in your sights is not in everyone's blood. Yes, racing is a whole other level of concentration and adrenalin, but I don't think everyone finds it the only way to get the most fun out of a track weekend. To each his or her own.

I love racing - but "red" group is really the cheap way to do it. You don't need 1/2 the equipment for a DE, and some organizations let instructors in for free.
Don't get me wrong, I instruct because I love helping people - but I've found it to be cheaper than racing.

Cost for me ...cost of actually buying a race car and then the cost of actually racing it. Trust me this eats at me everyday.
If I could push a clutch pedal I would find a $10k or less Mazda Miata and go racing or possibly bump up to the Boxster spec series.

I'm glad you asked that question. I don't know about others who haven't switched from DEs to racing, but I just never wanted to race; all I wanted from the start (about 24 years ago) was to drive my car fast without fear of getting a speeding ticket. Apparently I don't have a sufficiently competitive instinct to morph my desire to drive fast into a desire to race and beat others. In fact, I question why some want to beat others. They must be either good enough to get paid to do it, or just have an enhanced competitive instinct that I'm lacking (my survival instinct seems strong, however). When I think deeply about it, racing seems so lame. Then I wonder what that makes me for watching it.
"The cost has got to be the same ..." Really? I drive a stock Porsche (with the exception of tires and brake pads/fluid) to and from events. No trailer, fire suit, roll cage, go-fast goodies, etc. I paid $100 entry fee for my last weekend at VIR full course.
"the fun factor in racing exponentially more ...." I don't think my heart could take it then. I think at some point, still below competitive lap times, my fun would turn into mortal fear. That's the survival instinct kicking in.
