Having had a 2500 lb, 650 hp race car in the past and more recently had cars in the 275-400 hp range with similar weight but much better handling/aero, My honest opinion is that it becomes very difficult to use more than about 500 hp on a road course....and i'll take a little less power for better handling and brakes any day.

Once you start having a ton of power the fastest way to make a laptime is to focus very heavily on traction off the corner and sacrifice other aspects of handling.

And there is the issue of N/A vs Turbo rarely the 650hp cars are N/A in this class and because I prefer them, I am with you on this. 450hp and 2500 pounds is the sweet spot indeed.

gomez,
nice going. have you any info on how you dealt with your sunroof. was there somewhere to leave the panel bolted too when the mechanism came out or is it just bonded in the hole.

im toying with options to deal with mine just now and would be keen to hear your thoughts.

Here is how I did it.

(from a older post)- Finally got pics of the sunroof delete install from West Coast Specialties. The work they do is nothing short of amazing. They took the carbon fiber panel I purchased from Getty Design and epoxied it into the sunroof hole. They then went in and leveled it out and sealed it up and repainted the roof so you can't see any seems. Just great work ... the roof is solid now and weights a full 40 lbs less right off the top of the car. Just awesome. Check the pics below.

The Carbon Fiber Getty Sunroof delete. Weight= 0.5 lbs total weight savings over stock metal plate is 9.5 lbs.
Total weight saved by sunroof delete is 40 lbs.

Getting ready....

Epoxy being applied to provide the seal

Material to smooth out the curve and seams is sanded to perfection

I will post pics of the final product once I get my car back from GMG as they are installing my OMP steering wheel and fixing what I hope is just a bad wheel bearing.

fantastic, thank you.
i had thought about a panel but hadnt thought it could go on smoothly and was leaning towards a whole roof change out. that looks great though and far easier than my alternative.

wow, that really is a good finish. i was convinced with a panel id have some sort of hump on there that would show up in the reflections but this is clearly not the case.
bonded panel it is then

I'd probably be more concerned about it cracking as the body flexes. I hope that is not the case, as I have seen it happen before.

Completely stripped (bumpers, AC, exhaust, etc.) Cayman is about 2640 (with wing and splitter).

Add driver, coolsuit, some fuel, etc. and off track weight is about 2900.

Cheers,
