Default IRL HANS devices

Did anyone else happen to notice that the IRL drivers (all) seemed to have a HANS device that was very tall and thin behind the helmet?

It just looked "different" from what I remember the 'typical' HANS device to be.

Default IRL Extension

These extensions are made for the IRL specifically to help in rear impacts. They allow the driver/helmet to slide upwards without "catching" on any protrusion. Drivers always move upward in any kind of rear impact.

These pieces are hand made to fit the Model 30 only as that's what's used in the IRL. Most Porsche drivers use a Model 20 in their cars. If you think there is any need or benefit from such a thing inside your cockpit please contact me directly. Thank you for the opportunity of posting in this forum.

I thought they were extended so that the IRL "safety" crew can hook a crane to it and yank the driver out of the cockpit...

Absolutely! And really glad to see these extensions for reasons mentioned above. We've spent a lot of time shaping the helmet collar in our cars (at the design stage) to prevent this.

Why isn't this adopted for other HANS devices?
