Simona is a tough girl -- super nice to chat with as well. We all are very glad to see her come away relatively unscathed.

And yes, her visor almost melted-off -- they are supposed to melt to the foam gasket in the event of enough heat.

It's no coincidence the safty director at Road America (Carson) is the former fire safety director for CART.

Great guy, catch him at Siebkens and ask him to share some stories. Clear your calendar, you'll be there a while.

IRL response on their site is lame. They are not easy to contact. I see them losing some hard core fans after this.

One thing nobody seems to have focused on is how difficult it was for her to get out. She was conscious and physically capable, and it appears that the cockpit was intact. Yet she could not get herself out. That's inexcusable when racing open wheel at those speeds. That's not to absolve the fire crews from responsibility. But the cockpit design really needs to be reconsidered.

Her helmet collar was still attached to the monocoque, and her having wide shoulders made it that much more difficult to turn sideways and slide out.

I know. But wouldn't it be a good idea to make it so that women with big shoulders (and guys) could get out by themselves? The helmet collar should have a quick release.

I can only speculate (that's to make peace between MJ and my #2 amigo Ray S) that something was caught and she couldn't get out whether it be her HANS, belts, whatever.

Unfortunately this was the perfect storm of things that can go wrong all at once and God did spare her life because that is just too long to be sitting in a car that is on fire if you count the time she was up against the wall burning.

1. You have the fact she can't get herself out.

2. You have the fire crew that has a hose that doesn't work.

3. You have her legs that seem to be caught when her upper torso is out, but the lower portion is not.

I've been a defender of Danica, but I admit her attitude needs adjustment. Simona had every right to bitch about the situation, but was very gracious about it in the interview afterwards. If Danica was bitching about the crew's set up of her car during qualifying, I cringe at how she would have handled this situation were she in that same place as Simona.

Agree: do not know if she will become the best female driver but it would be nice to see her get more time. What great attitude and presence. She has the face of a happy person. Danica reminds me of the bitch in the Hangover, a total c##t.
