Although I never met Steve personally, I enjoyed his sense of humor through rennlist and PMed him on multiple occasions about unique pictures he had as avatars.

Never knew he was ill and my heart goes out to his family, especially his daughter. May he hold her hand and guide her through her young life from above.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. I only knew Steve here on Rennlist and enjoyed his wry sense of humor and intelligent take on things. May he rest in peace and his family live well.

Steve phoung and Kelly were dear friends of mine and my family.

Steve treated the track weekend like a family outing. I have taken my daughters to the track since they were Kellys age. I always admired Steve for that.

We spoke of deep spiritual things while ill. I know he is in heaven today.

He never missed my guys weekend retreats always eager to volunteer to bring the food and beer.

I cherish my time with him in January. I also cherish his ride with me on the track in the fall. Two buds haulin *** whoopin and hollering at every turn

l will miss Steve and his wife and daughter will always be in our lives. They will not be forgotten.

Rip my friend

I will miss Steve dearly. I think I was his first instructor at TWS. It is not fair to Phoung and Kelly. Rest in heavenly pease.

This is one of my favorite photos. And that is the way I remember it. Kelly was right there with him proudly showing off their work on the SC.

This is horrible news. May Steve Rest In Peace.

I never met Steve, yet I was fortunate to get to know him through RL, PMs and emails between us. He welcomed me into the Cool Arrow Racing Team, allowing me to know him and his close friends even better...he must have felt a need for a token Yankee. We talked several times about getting together at a track in Texas, but it is a big disappointment to me that I was never able to make that happen.

My condolences and thoughts go out to his family and friends, and I hope that eventually the memories of the good times shared with Steve will fill the hole left by his passing.

I posted this elsewhere, but wanted to post it here as well.

When I first saw this thread title, I thought "it MUST be a typo"... I, umm - don't even know what to say..? I've communicated with Steve over the years, and mostly about his family and all they have done with us for Haiti.

I have many tears clouding my vision right now, so I'll stop typing - and just copy and paste my post from the Rennwish BLOG made in late Feb this year:

http://rennwish.blogspot.com/2010/02/kellys-world.html

All of my heart, all of my thoughts, all of my prayers go out to the Thornton family and friends. If there is anything, anything at all - Jen & I could possibly do - please, just ask...

I am deeply saddened.

Steve's involvement with Kelly in Rennwish speaks volumes about him as a person, and also as a parent. I love the picture of her with the tape. It offers a little peak into Steve's sense of humor.
