They are making a Denali HD next year....with the 397hp-765 torque turbo diesel!!

That would be the best of both worlds....all the luxury and comfort in a package that can tow 15,000lbs

the SLE models of sierra or lower models have a "truck dash"
SLT has the denali dash. if you ignore my short bed, the cabin is a SUV cabin. much more plush than my E90 POS BMW. and i also prefer the SLT over my 2009 cayenne GTS.
a high end truck today aint a truck.

Towing
The open trailer tows great at legal + speeds, the enclosed trailer also does well but the toy hauler has to work hard over hills and headwinds but does the job done from San Diego to Spring Mtn in Pahrump.
If you plan on doing double duty, I would stick to 1/2 ton as it will be a much better daily driver than a 3/4 or larger.
I was previously towing an open trailer with a 1996 Ford Explorer with V8 and that worked well.

One of the great things about towing with a big @ss diesel is engine braking. Makes a big difference.
I've had enough close calls now that I won't ever tow without a big diesel with a long wheel base. Just like the point where you go from a dual purpose car to a full track car, it's a huge step up when you go to the full on tow vehicle. Doesn't work for everyone, but if you can swing it - do it (to the OP, not John).

I pull my loaded enclosed with a RAM 3500 Cummins with the 6 speed auto and exhaust brake and I never even touch the brake coming down the mountain with cruise control on in tow mode. It's amazing.
As a daily driver, a one ton truck is a bit stout and bouncy, and with what you're looking at pulling, you don't 'need' that much truck... but...
Didn't someone mention a mortgage???

With my 2500 Dodge V10 I have gone donw 6% freeway grades in 3rd gear no brakes. Even with a gas motor and only 4 gears the engine braking is very good. That is towing 24 ft enclosed trailer.

For anyone contemplating a Ram 2500 vs 2011 F250 diesel, Motor Trend just put out a comparison. Essentially they liked both of them but gave the advantage to the Ford.

Did I miss something here? When you click on the GM link, the photo shown is most definitely a truck. So is it an SUV, or a fancy interior pickup????

I think your right Ken, when he said Denali I assumed a Diesel Yukon Dinali, looks like a fancy truck... already got one of those. GM had announced a couple years back that they were going to produce a diesel Suburban, I was hoping they finally came through. Looks like not.

No worries, Frank, freewheeling always was and always will be cool.
I vote DIESEL with a big, phat gas tank for the Iceman...
