Default Another steel lug nut question - fit

I just purchased a set of M14x1.5mm with 14mm ball seat steel nuts, ebay item 220326460350 for my 993 - stock 17" Porsche Cup II wheels and have a question...

Visually, the oem and steel nuts look the same, however when I place the steel nuts in the wheel bore, they seem to rock around as if the seat is larger or a different shape than the stock nut. The stock nuts seem to drop in a little further with no rocking. When I torque the steel nuts, there is about one tread showing on the stud.

Are these safe/the correct nuts?

They are the ones I use, on 3 different sets of wheels (none stock). They have been fine for me.

Does anybody know where I can get some of these? The tall one on the left.

Make sure that the radius of the bevel is what you need.
The longer one has more height than is necessary or useful, from what I have been told. The threads should be engaged to a length that is equal to the thickness of the bolt. From this picture, it appears to exceed that by 100%. They may look more secure, but I'm not sure they are. Perhaps one of the more technically knowledgable could shed some light on this?

Might not be related but....There were some cad plate type gold tone finish steel lug nuts for sale on the internet (from where I don't remember) that looked good but had varing profiles on the faces. Some from one set I looked were OK and some had too sharp an angle to the face profile. another set was OK but for one and another set was almost all wrong. The wrong ones had a slightly shorter shoulder to them.

These are the zinc plated nuts from Trackstuds.com. Visually the ball portion looks the same as the factory alloy nuts, though the top edge has a little more radius than the factory lugs which square-off.

I was just concerned that they didn't seem to sit as well in the wheel seat - they rocked a bit. I have been in contact with the vendor and they verified that they are the correct nuts. They sponsor a GT3, so I would like to think they know what's what.

I put them on and drove about 100 street miles; they're still tight (95 lb/ft). While not the same as track, I hope this is an indication that everything will be fine for DE.

Question for those in the know: I heard that the correct steel nuts can actually be had as an (inexpensive, accesible) VW part#.

Any truth to that?

Best,

Matt
