Default Cage For 944 Turbo DE Car. Recommendations Please

Finishing up my 86 Turbo which is my DE car. I simply do not have $3000 to put into a custom cage at this time. What are your recommendaios as far as a bolt in cage goes? Any choices other than Safety Devices or Autopower? Any other pre-fab kits? Thank you ahead of time.

I just talked to Mark at Kirk Racing. He can do a weld in for $1500 parts and labor. I am taking my car to him. Thanks

Mark did my car a number of years ago. He does a great job and is very reasonably priced.

I basic yet sound weld in should be sub 2000 and far better than a bolt in. Glad you found him.

Enjoy! BTW.. despite it being for DE make sure it is NASA/SCCA/PCA race legal. Much easier to do it like that now than have a nasty surprise later.

Custom weld in is the way to go if you are starting from scratch and have a dedicated track car, most prices around here that I see are also in the $1500 range, so sounds like you are pretty spot on. I yanked my autopower out this winter, and the safety devices cage should be installed early this week. Welding in the rear section (with reinforcement plates of the rearmost mounting point, and then having plates installed for the front bars to be bolt in, so I can remove them (front bars) for street driving.

If anyone needs a great shop for custom rollcages here in Kansas City, look up Charlie at kcraceware. They did a custom cage in a J. Karns 944 spec car that was really nice for $1500. They are also doing the install on mine.

I have talked to three shops and the quotes I am getting is over twice the price mentioned above (as high as 3X). Just for reference, I am specifying a 1.75x0.095 cage with NASCAR bars on both sides (door gutted and trimmed), x-cross in the back, a-pilar bar along the a-pilar of the car (dash is removed), a diagnol bar on top (sunroof gutted), adjustable seatback brace, and cage painted.

I'm getting a custom, welded rollbar for my 951 and it's around $1500 for everything.

Joel's spec car is very similar build. Hopefully he can hop in and post some pictures. I know the shops labor rate is $40 an hour, so definitely on the cheap side.

Yes, Mark at Kirk racing is going to do 1.75" with a .095 Wall thickness which is NASA and PCA legal for $1500. Thanks Lemming for the info on Kirk Racing.

Where are you located? We have a great fabricator here in Lexington that did mine and Astroman's fully custom cages for $2000. The only thing we did was gut the interiors. Here is his site, and I can put you in touch with him if you like. PM me your email address if you want pictures of my cage.

Post photos when done, please. I just put in a bolt in Autopower in mine and it's a bit tight (for me!) for my liking.
