Default Bang-for-buck tire recommendation?

OK, so I think I squared away the best price on the Toyo R888s (BTW, thanks to a few of you folks helping me out with that!!)

Before I do so, are there any comperable tires to the R888s, as in performance and dollar. Price is paramount here ...as well as my limitation to 225/245 in 16s as there are fewer and fewer choices for 16s out there it seems. Thanks guys!

If they are available I would get RA-1's instead.

I know the Miata guys prefer RA-1s to R888s...

the 944 guys also prefer the RA-1 to R888's.

I feel the RA-1 is best bang for the buck out there.

I think Michelin Pilot Sport Cups come in that size and they last a loooooooooooong time. I got like 3 full DE seasons out of a set.

I have been looking as well. And the RA-1's are pretty limited in size so the R888's are it. I get a 50/50 response on the R888's. I'm thinking of MPSC's now.

HIGHLY recommend the nitto NT01. tried them for the first time last weekend for a full HPDE day. full depth, they were AWESOME. i've tried RA1s and R888s and the NT01s perform about the same but closer to the RA1s.

but here's my fav part, they're cheaper, available at the local discount tire (who by the way with a little negotiating will match any online retailer price plus the convenience is real nice), and they seem to wear just as nicely as the toyo's.

Nitto NT01 or Toyo RA1. Although like you when my RA1 are worn out I will be forced back to R888's as no one makes the size I need except Toyo with the R888's. I know the R888's get a bad rap on this forum but I never thought they were as bad as some people make them out to be. However the RA1's to have more heat cycle life to them.

Thanks for the recs, folks ...appreciate that! Seems there is a grand total of ONE 16" tire size available in the Nitto! Ugh! And the RA1s are no-go for my size, as well. I know the R888s get mixed reviews, but those whom I've read that like them seem to be more my speed. For my purposes, they will likely be fine (...I hope!).

Toyo RA1s are good tires, the R888s are ok (I run them as a track tire on my street cars and ran them last year in 944-Spec). I also like Hankook Ventus (they last a while too and give good grip).
