Yes the minimum requirements for safety equipment are fairly low, but so is SCCA...As for contact....contact between vehicles is NOT ALLOWED...at all....it results in a penalty for BOTH drivers regardless of "fault"......even going off track to avoid an accident is a penalty......Lemons strongly encourages VERY conservative driving.....and with 420 black flags last weekend will attest to that!!

In both races we have competed in we only had 1 minor contact....zero in the last race with 16 hours of racing in two days...how many "real" racers can say zero contacts in 16 hours on track????

Back to safety equipment.....we run a Racetech 4009wHR containment seat, with Hans, scroth 6 point harness & a 8 point cage, with double nascar bars.....our car would pass tech for any race organization that does not require a fuel cell!!

Bottom line is Lemons racing is FUN and CHEAP....and most events only have minor non injury incidents......since most tracks don't have walls like Sears....99% of the drivers are predictable and driver safely....& most of the "others" get weeded out by the black flags and sent packing......

Accidents happen- People sometimes get hurt. The End.

I have raced in two Lemons races. I have worn all my normal safety equipment. Is it crazy out there while racing with people who have never raced a car before? Hell Yes! Would I ever want it to change- HELL NO! It is the most fun I have ever had racing in 13+ years of W2W racing.

My first lap at a Lemons race was the funniest thing I have ever experienced. I was laughing out loud at some of the other drivers lines. Some people think the INSIDE LANE on every single corner like a 400m track star is the fastest (shortest) way around the track.

I'll be racing in 3 more Lemons races this year.

Do not get all rightous on Lemons races/events/rules until you actually raced one. Everyone knows the dangers of racing- If you can't handle it, then don't race.

Here is another link to a good experience at a Lemons race.

These two points are NOT unrelated.

They are, but everyone knows that going into the race. It's not a secret that you will be out there with total noobs. Generally, people are not crazy punks in the cars. Most are timid. If anything it makes people even more aware on whats is going on around them. Most are more careful. The Lemons staff black flags people for doing stupid stuff all the time. If people can't handle it then they should not race. Simple as that.

I think you mean #52...& yes I read it

Bottom line is this......Lemons Racing is the fastest growing form of motorsports today..... While club racing and most pro racing are hurting...Lemons is growing by leaps and bounds...... Since you are a "professional coach"....there IS a market from lemons teams.....something you might NOT want to disregard....

Perhaps you're right. Nevertheless, the fellow in the flim clip on the OP of this thread barely escaped (due to pure luck) a basal skull fracture due to driving a true POS and having a wanton disregard for basic safety gear. Ask Theresa or Dale Earnhardt Jr. what they think of basal skull fractures.

You can justify all you want. But one day very soon, one of these asshats is gonna die in one of these heaps....and boy, will there be hell to pay.

No, I meant #54. And I am not really sure that I would want to get into some of these heaps. I mean....did you hear the sounds that POS was making in the OP right before he rolled?

If there is a coaching market for Lemons teams, I have to admit that I haven't seen it yet.

Dave

you need to come to the lemons race at EC in june. Its a blast. you can check out our car and if you want to drive I am sure we could make it happen. We built it right and had Todd do the cage. Very safe car and a hoot to drive. I will try and get it out to a DE sometime and let you check it out.

While I concur quite a few "race cars" in lemons events are not exactly reliable....I am always impressed at the # that FINISH....I never counted less than 120 cars on track of the 150 that started!!!!!!!!!!!!

But race cars by nature are not exactly reliable...I mean really how many race cars can complete 16hours of racing in two days with no problems...not many

Thanks. I am talking with Todd and Bimmerworld about caging my car... When in June?

Brian, I agree it's self-selecting. And I didn't mean reliability: I meant basic parts integrity. Again, the sound that heap made right before rolling made my stomach turn.....

We see one ugly wreck and the entire format is unsafe? I have seen plenty of ugly wrecks in almost every venue. Perhaps the Lemons organizers could/should adopt more complete safety rules that include H&N. A foam ring does not count as H&N in my book. Considering the # of cars on track and the number of hours and the number of races there are few lemons wrecks.

i think its the 5-6th.

I dont know about bimmerworld but I can vouch for Todd's cages. I owe my life to him. I will never go anywhere else for a cage.

I'll be racing in 3 more Lemons races this year.
Same here.

Plavan, I must say the last stint of the day on Sunday was fantastic.
I was driving the Gulf Ford Escort and I diced with your car for 30-40 minutes straight.
I lost track of how many times we traded places.

As to LeMons. I've seen wrecks and rollovers in every form of racing, DE's and street driving.
People crash cars...

LeMons does not tolerate car to car contact and injuries are rare.
A typical SCCA/NASA/NASCAR weekend has wrecks, too.

I'm sure many of us have seen or heard about them, too.

The people that race LeMons are not bad people.
I've read a lot of judgmental posts in this thread. That's too, bad.

We're having fun.

Looks like you just answered your own question.

Chris, I agree--his cages are top tier. If it's the 5-6 of June, I can't make it: coaching way up on Lake Michigan, at Gingerman.
