My budget has prevented me from getting to the track for the past four years. I've maintained some driving skills by getting into go karting. I've raced in several leagues and regularly attend nights when I can get 20 or more heats in.

I keep hoping for a better business environment, but I think karting has improved some aspects of my driving.

Larry, Don't worry about getting a little slower with age. The older I get, the faster I was.

I switched from tracking an RS America to a spec miata in order to continue to have enough budget to do the number of events that I wanted to do. The miata is so much cheaper in consumables and repairs. If money were no object, I'd rather track a porsche, but if I gotta choose between tracking a miata or sitting it out altogether....

I have been seriously considered getting into a Miata for a back up and extra fun on race weekends. Would be fun to jump out of the Porsche and get into the Miata and throw it around. Lots of local comp here. Got a good mechanic here locally for these. Its probably my next toy...

Spec boxter is also on my radar.

Still love throwing around the 911. Just nothing like it for my ultimate fun factor. Just looking at it in the garage makes me happy.

I was out of racing from 06/06 until 08/09. I sold my 951 race car to help fund building a new house, horse barn and indoor riding arena for my lovely wife. It was one of the happiest day of my life when the new race RS America Race Car arrived last spring. Never give up your dreams!

Well your old car is up and running again after being apart a year and a half and will be at Laguna Tuesday...........

But back to the topic at hand. My first "retirement" was from about '89 to '94 when I went to law school and then money saving mode. (Ended up buying a business instead of starting a practice.) Then finally things stabilized enough to get back into wheel-to-wheel in '01. I actually haven't raced since '04 as I bought another time consuming business, coupled with my diabetes getting out of whack. Now, I have the time and health, but am pretty much underemployed.

So I do a lot of DE instructing. Share a garage at Thunderhill so it's easy to take out 2, 3, 4 cars in a single day to get my fix of variety.

I have been racing and off since 2002. I have taken a few breaks here and there depending on funding and time. It happens. For me I already track a cheap car and help out with organization so my event costs are really low. That has enabled my to run alot of events, but I am aware that at some point things might change. Well see.

This all for fun and the rest of my life comes first.

I also benefit in this way by tracking my Mini Cooper....throw everything in the hatch and go. No trailer to deal with.....good on gas, brakes, and a riot to drive. Allows me to do lots of days......
