So I'm finally going to buy some dedicated rain tires for the up coming season for my RS America Race Car. It looks like the Hoosier Radial Wet is the best choice. I'm running 245/40-17 front and 275/40-17 rear R6's in the dry on 9" & 11" Fikse's. The rain tires will be installed on Cup 1 17" Rims 8's & 9's. Should I be considering a narrow rain tire say 225/45 front and 245/40 rear for better traction?
Thanks,
JF

Id stick with your original size IMO. You will probably have your sways disconnected and so your load up the outside tire and want the contact patch. You are also touching the road with less tire since there are many groves anyway.
Just my $0.01

hi.
when i've bought rain tires, and mounted them and raced on them, i've always run 'one size down' from what i run in the dry. for instance, on one of my cars, i run 225-45-15s dry tires all the way around; for rain i run 205-50-15s. my theory was always that i want more pressure on a smaller contact surface so as to better reduce hydro planing and better evacuate the standing water. also, it is typically cold and wet conditions, and the narrower tires warm up better and stay up at better temps.
its always worked for me, but ymmv! good luck!
