AIM Smartycam - what is the latest

David, I use it on a PC but it is available for Mac OS X for both PPC and Intel CPUs.. Can't imagine anything to do with video being slower on a Mac but if it's an older one......

When it comes out the 'new' version will just have new firmware which you'll be able to update to and the external GPS antenna which is an add on to the first ones sold. No differences other than that AFAIK.

I am a big fan of thge AIM stuff, have been using the AIM Pista for 2 years now with the GPS module. I have been told to disconnect the GPS module and use the smarty cam instead.. as it can provide all the data as per the GPS module. Is this the case?

It uses both according the guys at AIM.
Also just spoke with the AIM guys, the new SmartyCam is actually a new box as well and the external GPS is not just a simple add on to the older cameras like they were originally looking at doing.

Sorry about the "family" illness, I know how that goes...

On a side note I'll have 2 of my demo cameras for sale soon. I have one more use for them if it doesn't rain and then they'll be ready for whoever needs them. They are in perfect shape with the only marks being on the mounting screw. 850 shipped.

Just heard back from Enrico at AIM (Italy I assume) on questions I asked a couple weeks ago..
"I have an AIM MXL Pista with the GPS Module and Data Hub and want to add the SmartyCam but have several questions.
1. I use the USB Key to collect data so that leaves two ports open, will the Smartycam simply plug into one of those ports?
Smartycam has to be connected to a CAN input. In case you have a datahub, you can connect it to one of the datahub ports.
2. Is the SmartyCam available without the GPS built in for those of us with AIM GPS?
No, SmartyCam comes with an internal GPS. Nevertheless, since the external GPS antenna works better in some situations ( for example, in a close roof car), you can anyway use your GPS module and SmartyCam will forget its internal GPS for usieng the data coming from the external one.
3. If #2 is no, with the Smartycam use my existing GPS antenna to get it's signal? My antennae is external and the camera would be mounted central inside the car, not a good place for GPS signal.
I think the previous answer can be useful also for this question
4. Is there a new version of SmartCam (no GPS or external antennae) being released soon?
No, really we are going to release a Smartycam that have both GPS: internal and external
Thank a lot for your attention!"
