Default Deman Rotor Question - now with pics

For those using Deman rotors, how much cracking is too much? And is there a chance these things will have too many cracks and just "explode"?

Edit: I have hairline cracks, some about 1/2" long. But they all end well before the edge. The surface is still smooth when you run a fingernail across it.

TIA,

-td

I haven't heard of any failures. I changed mine after 3 full sets of Pagid R14's. There was visible surface cracking and some stress marks but no deep cracks or signs of potential failure. Some of the stress marks were 1 1/2" inch long but still had the appearance of integrity. The surface was still smooth when I run a fingernail across it I was just paranoid and amazed the abuse they took.
Great value. Perhaps Rick gave give some additional guide lines.

I have the same concern. The cracks do not extend to the inner or outer margin of the braking surface, but I can feel them with my finger nail. I took them off out of fear, but there may be a whole season left!

Hey All,

What you see is perfectly fine, normal wear. You will see those surface heat cracks after a few uses but with no worries at all. Keep an eye on the surface, if and when a crack opens up and travels to the edge, not just a small hairline one but a big crack moves near the edge and meets the edge it will be time to replace. For agressive DE use you will be able to get at least 30-40 days of use. Using Pagid RS14 (black) pads we are seeing 25-30 RACE days on Cup cars under race conditions.

Feel free to send me some pictures for evaluation if you are concerned with yours.

Thanks..!!

Rick,

Thanks, that helps, but the difference between a hairline crack and one that begins to open up is where it gets fuzzy. When the crack extends to the outside edge is more helpful and is unambiguous. If you have pictures, that would help even more.
I've had lots of use from these rotors, without any problems.

How 'bout these? Note that some of pics have funny angles making the cracks look like canyons. But the straight-on shots are pretty representative.

Himself, I'd say those are fine with more DE/Race days left. I've seen a lot worse and run worse myself. However lets see what Rick DeMan has to say as he is the pro and I am not.

Don't want to kill Rick's rotor sales, but he sell's a good product. I see nothing wrong with those in the pics. Let's see what Rick says.

Those are barely broken in. You can run those for a while with no issue.

Hey Rick, do you have those rotors to fit the 2010 RS with the 380 mm fronts? I loved mine on the 07 RS - got 50 days out of them using RS 29 pads.

Best,
