Came across these pics on the Canon Photography forum and borrowed them.
What a way to play in the snow.
Love the home made snow studded tires. I think this is from Michigan

That vid makes it look even more inviting. Gotta be just carefree sliding and swerving.

I did the motorcycle ice racing thing also. In Northern Alberta they had a 24hr ice race...............it was called the 'Numb Bum'.

I used to ice race, back when I was young and thought nothing of lying in a pool of 32 degree water changing a CV joint.
Here's some action from last year - not me.
Click on the video to open youtube and view more from the same guy.

That's why there is a big-*** foglight mounted on the roof or rear hatch, pointed backwards. Look carefully...you can see it.
Visibility in the classes that use the serious tires (Menards/Cam-AM, "bolts", Conti ice rally, etc) is a big problem when in traffic. Lots of ice shaving, snow and blowing crap. More than a few times, I've simply followed the faint yellow/white fog light in front of me around the track at hyperspeed, hoping that they knew where they were going. I sure as **** didn't.
Asphalt is for parking. Dirt is for potatoes. Ice is for racing.

Yes, there is such a thing as "rental ice racer". Since you're in Massachusettgrad, you're best option may be AMEC in the Albany area ( http://www.icerace.com/schedule.htm), or the New Hampshire or Maine guys (I think the "West Cove Ice Racing Assoc" in Maine is still racing).
I know of some AMEC guys who have (had ?) a rental fleet...not quite sure what is currently available.
If you get in a Menards-class car, you're screwed. Not much in motorsport comes close to the speed and excitement. Afterwards, you'll realize that roadracers are a pansy-assed bunch of whiners and poseurs.
