Default 2010 Season European Breakdown

The two major European sportscar racing series are seeing significant changes in format this year. To make it easier for those of us who don't follow them all, i'm trying to collect all the relevant information here.

FIA GT:

FIA GT is officially splitting into two series this year; The GT1 World Championship, and the GT2 European Championship. The top two FIA GT classes that previously competed together are now two separate series with separate schedules. The annual 24 hours of Spa will be contested as part of the GT2 Euro schedule by GT2, GT3 and GT4 cars in 2010, with the GT1s absent.

The provisional GT1 entry list looks like this:

More information for both series (and full schedules) can be found at www.gt1world.com and www.fiagt.com

Le Mans:

The three national LMS series will remain the same, the ALMS, Asian LMS, and European Le Mans Endurance series. A new "Triple Crown" style championship called the LMS Intercontinental Cup will allow LMP1 entries to score bonus points in three major rounds of national competition, the 1000km of Silverstone in LMS, the Petit Le Mans in ALMS, and an unspecified round of Asian LMS provided they also complete five national rounds. So far only Audi has commited, promising to run the R15+ in all three Intercontinental events.

Also of interest, WRC has switched coverage from Eurosport to MotorsTV, which is promising more onboard feeds and a longer program format.

I'll try to keep the information here as up to date as possible.
