Who wants a TRG Cup Car
#61
Cory, I believe PMNA will request that the new 2010/2011 Cup car be eligible for Rolex GT competition in 2011......so I assume that was what Fryd was referring to.
And yes, I hope you make Sebring as well. I think a Rolex GT Porsche should do quite well in the ALMS GT-C Class! Would you run the Daytona car?

I am going to stick my neck out and say that Porsche will likely withdraw their support from Grand Am after Daytona, no more parts truck, support staff and likely no more custom built cars. I think they really got hurt with a lot of unsold cars for the series (hence no changes until they sell the leftovers), and see Grand Am as moving toward tube frame cars as the rule, not to mention the DP Porsches getting the short end of the rules package. When I was racing to win there, the Porsche 911 was the class standard (ie-they matched performance to that car), now it is probably the Pratt and Miller Pontiac, or whatever they are going to call it this week.

I was reading Panorama last week about the 917, 962, etc and how they ran and won at Daytona. And then I thought about Daytona now. What a joke of a race in comparison.

Yeah, well so is the Indy 500 and all of the other races/series that corporate marketing get a hold of. When real money gets involved the motive is strictly ROI. The purity of the sport goes out the window.

Unlike most racers, I am more into the cars than the racing. Racing is a fun thing to do with cool cars like Porsches. Spec cars are great for learning skills but I have no interest in watching them.

I was thinking that this weekend when watching DTM and BTCC. The BTCC racing was a lot closer and more intense, but I enjoy watching the high-tech DTM cars more (even though they have a few spec parts).

I'm pretty sure the 'sold' car was the '66' car..which ended up 3rd in GT and top 10 overall. Not a bad deal now huh?

OK, maybe not good deal monetarily, but more like 'hey, I own a podium finishing TRG car' good deal, not 'hey, I own a totalled into the wall after 1 hour of racing car' good deal.
