Default James Hunt - nice piece of memorabilia

Click on this link to check out this For Sale Ad, anyone got deep pockets out there?!

His championship was when I started taking a real interest in F1, then to later become a fanatiscism in 1990 when I transfered to Brazil (originally Brit, now temporary Texan!).

More information and pictures of this car here, plus some other tasty morsels.

That is a beautiful car.

James Hunt was a wild guy!

F1 was so much more interesting then...

Am I missing something? So he drove it? Don't get me wrong James hunt was quite a guy but it was never "his"car and has no provenance as even a car that he raced.

From the sale website and pretty much same text in the Daily Telegraph article:

Supplied new on the 18th June 1974 to Lord Hesketh, the owner of Hesketh Grand-Prix at Easton-Neston in Northamptonshire, this famous yellow car was given to James Hunt as part of his remuneration to use as his daily transport for the '74 and '75 season with Hesketh and even the '76 season- when he was to become World Champion for Mclaren.

For me, this has to be the Holy Grail of collectable road going Porsche's. Apart from it's obvious rarity, the James Hunt provenance is very significant. I was a 14 year old school boy in England in 1976 when James Hunt won the F1 World Championship. His season long battle with Nicki Lauda was all my friends and I talked about that summer. He became a National Hero and role model for every self respecting Petrol Head British Teenager at the time. I attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1977 which he also won. After the race on his victory lap, the crowd (including myself) climbed over the safety fences and swarmed onto the track! The image of him driving his bright orange and white Marlboro Mclaren holding the checkered flag with the crowd around him is one I'll never forget!

An interesting aside: the 356 B Cabriolet for sale on the same website as the 3.0RS, License Plate # BMM 934A http://www.nickwhalesportscarsdirect...let-1600-S.php is 1 license plate number away from my old 356 B Cabriolet BMM 933A that I restored in the UK in 1987. I guess they were delivered at the same time in 1963.

Happy Memories
