Default 18 year old + F430 = tragic end

This appears to be another tragic story involving a young driver who's parents gave him an exotic car.

Ugh - yet another example of idiot parents, I guess. Still, they have my sympathy.
And of course, plenty of kids have killed themselves in cheap cars, I suppose.
Re the post of 'which one should I buy?' (in the linked forum); I guess the correct answer was 'neither.'

How horrible and sad. Terrible story, made even worse by the time of the year..

Brings back my memory when I turned 18 years old:

My dad did not set the best example.
He lost his license a bunch of times and plenty of people were scared enough not to get in the car with him. He never crashed, but it was luck.
He also let me drive far above the speed limit when I was years to young to drive when he needed sleep, but was in too much hurry to let me drive the speed limit. I loved it, the faster the better.

Fortunately my dad saw the day I could drive legally coming, so he made a deal with me when I turned 16 and was allowed to drive a bike; "Don't buy a bike and I will buy you a cheap car when you turn 18.

6 months before I turned 18, naturally in all my wisdom I picked out all kinds of fast (and old) cars, like 944, 323i 205GTI, etc. because of the tight budget he gave me.

Than he gave me the choice of a much more expensive new 4 door Toyota truck dat went about 70 MPH, but was pertty cool for its time (Remember back to the future.). His argument that I need a proper back seat for the girls sold me. The car arrived with huge tires, side bars, bull bar and double roll bars. Even 4 lights sticking out the roof. All those mods looked cool but I now understand they where al meant to slow me down and make the car safer.

Maybe the old man is not so crazy after all..
I never crashed the car, or any car actually, but got plenty lucky a few times. Most close calls in my first year and when I borrowed his V8 Merc. The car choice helped a lot surely...

Horrible story. Wow I could never move fast enough on that section of road at that time of day to get into trouble.

Right in the heart of Paradisenb. Not an uncommon story. Lots of trust fund babies. I knew/know several.

I can imagine the sorrow the parents must feel. Not because they gave him that car, just the loss of a child.

I remember Chick Iverson's son shredded in the back bay driving a 911 from his daddy's dealership.

I drove plenty fast on that section of road in my first 911. I was lucky.

Bayside Drive is much more fun.

According to one of the comments I read, the guy was a recent college grad with an engineering degree who bought the car himself.

The 18 year old driver was the cousin of the deceased passenger. Just makes the story that much worse.

I feel for the parents............BUT it is their own doing.....you should NEVER-EVER buy a sportcar for a young adult...period end of sentence.....

I was lucky to survive my teenage years wtih merely a 200hp sportscar....I'm sure I would have died and taken a friend with me if I had a Ferrari at the time.....

Modern cars are so powerful that even experienced drivers have a hard time controlling them....its too much for a young driver.... Most drivers really.....

I survived with 90hp, which is lucky.

What does a 1974 Super Beetle have for HP? I'm lucky to have survived that in my youth...
