Yes, I have a bad case of 917 fever and my sense of better judgment tells me I should keep my big mouth shut and not say anything until the point of no return, but I'm so excited I'm gonna blurt it out to the world anyway. - It's my childhood dream come true - I'm gonna be behind the wheel of a 917 replica next year. The car will be built by Bailey Edwards Cars here in South and should be ready by March / April next year. I've tested one of their cars before, you can read about it here.

I spent some time at the factory during the past couple of days and took some photos. Here is the blue car I tested before they turbo'ed the car and threw the G50 box out in favor of a Hewland crash box.

Beautiful. I am sooooo jealous. I was just on the Race Car Replica site last night looking at their 917 replica. I was actually going to post the question of what the general response was to these cars on the forum, nice to see your post.

Yes, As far as I can remember the 962 was created as a long wheel base version of the 956 in order to comply with the US rules for having the driver's feet behind the front axles. I've been wondering about classic 917s in the States running in Historic racing. They must have some sort of compromise with the rules??

As for the pedal box, it's made by Tilton to this day with the correct '908' part numbers casted in the pedals. The tail lights are also original. Hella still makes them with the correct part numbers.

Gonna be a while before I finish it, but it's getting a 3.6L 993 engine and a 930 gearbox. Those last few pics are with my 1987 911 that's mostly backdated to a 1973 RS look (done by Farnbacher...does that make it more collectible now?).

We haven't decided yet. There are three partners in this car, Allan, Mario and me. We're agreement about everything that's going on the car, except the color. Allan says he doesn't care, but I know he wants Martini colors. Mario wants something unique. I'm pushing for Gulf colors, but I can see three of us are heading for a friendly boxing match over a few drinks before the final decision is made.

Thanks for the link Donnie. At first glance I see a lot of differences on the chassis between the RCR and B/E cars. Very interesting...

BTW, we're also going with a 993 engine, turbo of course, with Hewland box.
