Default 914-6/944 EP success?

I am interested in racing a different class, possibly running SCCA Nat'l with my 944 cup car or building a 914-6 2.0L. Has there been any success with either of these setups?

Default SCCA racing

I can't speak for the 944,but I've been racing in F prod with my 4cyl 914 for the last 12+ years.
When at Mid -Ohio for the runoffs held my own, even top 10 . But ever since the 914 has fallen further and further off the pace.In 05' we had 10 teeners.Last year two,the year before that one.newer cars and the inherent limitations on our motors and aero hurt badly.
Unless you could get the CRB to allow you to twin plug the six, i would say you are wasting your time and money.so far many have tried to get the rule changed but none have succeeded and probably never will becuse the production 914-6 was never imported to this country as a twin plug motor.
what ever you decide,good luck.

What year of 944. I ran mine a bit but the EP formula does not really favor us. The early cars would have the advantage in EP, but you won't be able to touch the front runners no matter what.

The formula is 18 x OEM HP = minimum weight.

For early cars rated at 150HP, that is 150x18 = 2700lbs. For late cars, say my 87 with 158 rated hp, 158x18= 2844lbs.

So the late cars are at a huge disadvantage. The earlies can deck the head or run any piston for higher compression under the update/backdate clause, but the late cars can't match the weight of the early ones.

Even at 2700 minimum weight and a fresh motor, you are not going to be fast enough to run with the top cars. Heck we are not competitive in ITS with a 2575 minimum weight. Not that I could get that low, but some could in theory.

Erik Madsen ran a killer 914-6 in EP if I remember correctly, a great charge from the back in the 2005 runoff to finish 2nd place. I am sure that it is out there on youtube somewhere, he has sold the off I believe.

According to the SCCA GCR the 944 in level 2 prep would weigh 2250#, 10.7:1 comp, 1.2mm overbore, valve lift @.475, dry sump, trans, engine management. OEM t-body, minor portmatching, 914-6 can change barrels but no notes of twin plug head. Right now a EP Miata makes 190ish hp, weighs in @ 2075 and can run @ 2.28 @ Road America in the runoffs while a PCA GT5R 944S 200hp, 2100# ran a 2.36 on slicks at the Labor Day PCA event...

Yep he parted it out (I think he still has the engine and some other bits) as he is building an EP Boxster. The Boxster has made 914s obsolete in competitive racing.

According to the 2009 SCCA GCR the Boxster is not listed in EP. Any inside info if this will be a new car in EP?
