No Franz. He had been ill for some time. Good guy, and a friend of mine.

I knew he was ill but it's still unexpected. My life would have been a lot poorer if not for him. RIP Bill and long live SP.

Bill was a force of nature. He's been fighting cancer for more than ten years, and winning until around Thanksgiving.

Bill was once a professional formula car driver. He won the World and SCCA Super Vee Championships and raced Formula Ford in both IMSA's early Formula 100 Series and SCCA. Racing was in his blood, and racers were the reason he has been so good to the car club community. He made a LOT less money renting the track to us than he did renting it to the State Department and other protective services training customers, and yet Bill insisted that the weekends be reserved for the clubs.

RIP Bill, and thanks.

I knew Bill from this, and he was a great American. He will be missed.

That is really sad. I have been an instructor for BSR for the feds. I hope that Summit Point does not go away, but my deepest condolences are for his family.

From all the rumors that have swirled this year over BSR, SP, and the various contracts and training/gov't agencies who are happy/unhappy/leaving/staying/loving SP/Hate the facility and the staff, it's a wonder that Bill lasted as long as he did.

My first time ever at SP was in 1986 and Bill Scott himself was out there walking the grid, talking to many of us and asking about our goals and driving aspirations. About 3 years ago, he rolled up in a golf cart while I was unloading my car. He was certainly older, and so was I, and he didn't remember me. But I recognized him immediately. He was the same guy who wanted to talk about cars and driving the track.

Although I have been critical of the conditions at SP in the last few years, and have "wished" it were more like VIR, I know that SP was Bill Scott's dream, and in living his dream, he made it much more likely that many of us could chase ours as well...

GodSpeed Bill Scott!

Nice article here: http://herald-mail.com/?cmd=displays...43&format=html

Does anyone remember the name of the woman in the Yellow/Black VW Scirroco that Bill Scott used to sponsor/mentor in the 1980's?
