Default testing a '73 & 74 RSR

It's been a while since I posted anything, so I thought I'll share the pleasure of these two cars I tested last Sunday.

You can read about it here.

Cheers,
Pierre.

Just love your write-ups. All of them. These cars are beautiful. I am jealous! Can I change places?

Very neat, I need to mark that page to go over it when I have more time. There is a very good comment on the mind block regarding left-foot braking in your article.

I love those pics of the '74. Could I get a hi-res to use as wallpaper? Great write up as well. You are a lucky guy.

Hey thanks for all the kind remarks. Glad you guys enjoyed the article. It really was a good day, I'll post more Porsche related stuff when I have something worthwhile to show. I'll be sharing the white car in a race at Kyalami this weekend, so I'll probably have something to post after the weekend.

Here's a little fly-by of me behind the wheel of the yellow car from last weekend - very Short You-Tube Vid - too short though, I should get more footage soon.

stuttgart46, I'm waiting for some hi-res pics from the photographer. I'll send you a PM soon.

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Pierre.

73 RSR, 3.5L engine pushing out around 350 horses, delivered through a close ratio crash-box. Porsche used to experiment with 3.5L engines once upon a time but never released them on the open market, so the 3.5L boxer engine is quite a rare find these days.

Wooah! I'd love to see pictures of the engine, suspension, and interior.
(white car)

you 1 lucky bastard!

Pierre, out of curiosity, are you still running your superkart anymore? If not, what caused you to discontinue running it?

I'll be honest with you. When I first drove a 250 kart I realised I knew next to nothing, so it became an obsession to learn. It's really hardcore stuff. I made a deal with myself that I will race them for as long as it takes to run with the top guys consistently. It took me two years to achieve that little personal milestone, I spent most of the '07 season on the podium and I sure learned a helluva lot, but to remain competitive in 250 karts you have to eat, sleep and drink it. There is no time for anything else. Ultimately my passion is driving sports cars - Porsche, so that's what I'm keeping busy with, for now.

I'm still very much in touch with the local superkart fraternity though, made some good friends there and I'll probably do the odd race in future.

mrbillfll, I'll dig out some photos of the white RSR's engine and post them soon.

Cheers,
Pierre.

Pierre, thanks for the feedback regarding your 250 superkart. If I read in between the lines a little bit, I am wondering if part of the concern with running them was a concern for your own personal safety. Those things are SO FAST with very little protection around you, therefore, the risks to your safety have to be huge.

I own a 125 shifter kart in addition to my race car and I know that when I drive my 125 shifter (which is not nearly as fast as a 250 superkart), I have to be very much "on top of my game" at every single second because one little mistake could end up badly.

Jeff
