Default General DE question

Recently joined PCA, Arizona Region. I would like to participate in a local DE, but not sure what to expect.

My goals include:
  • To be able to run "spirited", safe, laps at decent speed.
  • Not interested in going through a set of tires in a day.
  • Not interested in proving my driving ability or car capabilities
  • I simply want to drive the car briskly on a closed course, safely.

For example, I completed a couple of laps at the Ring this summer. No problem, a lot of traffic, plenty of speed, I stayed out of the way when appropriate and passed safely when appropriate.

I have National level autocross experience. I've road raced karts and F440 in my younger days.

Is a DE a correct venue for me?

If so, down the road, I would consider an extra set of wheels/tires.

Your thoughts?

Thank you,
Denny

certainly a DE is about having fun while being safe. since DE's aren't officially timed, there's no real way of proving abilities down to numbers, driver's or car's.

just put some decent pads and fluid in, bring extra oil to top off and go have fun

prob also wanna bring lots of water and sunblock...but u knew that already

Just go buy a track car right now. You don't realize it yet, but you are already hooked.

Seriously though there are a LOT of people out there just for some safe and fun spirited driving.

DE's are much fun and yes, I believe this to be the correct venue for your goals, but be warned, you can still wad it up in a ball. Have fun!

Sounds to me like you have the right objectives and attitude - DE would be a perfect format for you. Don't get hung up on what to bring / how to change your car. Unless you have a terrible alignment, you won't be hurting your tires, etc. Just follow your chapter's guidelines for preparing for DE and you should be fine (ie: tech inspection, brake flush, etc.).

Down the road (quickly as you have plenty of experience) you'll want to upgrade your fluid to SRF, pads to something like Yellow 29s / PFC 97s, alignment via GT3 / Cup control arms, and wheels / tires. Lots of threads on this subject - try some searches.

You're planning on doing DEs? Just to be on the safe side, you shouldn't have anything less than THIS.

May as well get a diesel dually and 45' aluminum gooseneck trailer too, sooner or later you will!

Just follow the DE guidelines and don't sweat the small stuff. You'll be well taken care of. After the event you're on your own.

Thumbs up

Hi Denny,

PCA is a great place for this IMO. As a matter of fact AZ PCA is running this coming weekend at Firebird East. Great group of people, and low key. You're welcome to stop by and check it out if you're not sure.

I feel for those who hafta focus on 'winter' projects now while we're still having fun

See you out there some time,
Brian
