Default Made instructor

I had a great time this past weekend at the Suncoast DE at Sebring. I had the chance to hang with fellow Rennlister Mike (mdrums), and a number of other familiar faces (including an endodontist colleague of mine with whom I'm friends from the professional context, Dr. Randy Griffin).

This was my first time back to Sebring since my "incident" in the BMW. After some time off, and with my wife's acceptance, I've "climbed back up the horse which tossed me to the ground" and am back in the car hobby I love. As a additional unexpected bonus, I participated in the instructor school and was accepted! I had my first student the next day and must say I really enjoyed it. I do a lot of teaching in my profession, and enjoy it in that setting also. I'm going to go back and re-read Tom Kerr's instructor thread. The folks in the Suncoast region are a fantastic group of people and do a great job with their events.

Thanks. There are several hours of class room, a written test, and a couple track sessions with an instructor who models how to teach. Then in the last session another instructor drives and models the driving behavior of novice and intermediate drivers. I am evaluated on how I handle these student situations.

Yes, I am going into this with a healthy dose of anxiety. My student showed up in a full race suit in a 996, his first time on the track with a Porsche, so I'm thinking "oh sh&t". Turns out he was not a poser, in fact he is a Korean national who has racing experience in his country and is a decent driver. He drove front wheel drive cars in Korea however, so I had to quickly get him up to speed about not lifting in corners with a 911. Only one session in green and we promoted him to blue. Nice guy, quick learner, nice experience.

Ha! Bob I think they chose me as someone particularly qualified to teach the consequences of stupid moves on the track! LOL Believe me, I was nowhere near 10/10 on turn 16 any time during this weekend!

Rich,

I enjoyed our time together, but especially enjoyed hauling your *** in to the pits when you didn't listen to me as a cocky blue student! LOL

Seriously, you and your colleagues in Suncoast region are first class and I enjoyed my time so much, and look forward to seeing you guys many times in the future.
