Default Cost of mounting and balancing

Woodlands Shell Tire & Lube charges me $15 per tire when I buy from tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com.

Just curious to hear what you guys are paying?

I pay $15/wheel locally. Was quoted $25/wheel at the track.

I have a hard time finding it for 15 in the city. More like $20. Fwiw I think $25 for the luxury of having it done at the track is not too bad.

Typical going rate is $20/wheel here. One local shop does it for $15/wheel as part of a special SCCA endorsement, but their normal rate is $20/wheel.

Was just at the Porsche dealer this morning and I overheard them tell a 997 owner that he needs new tires at $300 a pop, plus $50 each for mounting and balancing.

I pay 10 for mounting & balancing it’s a special deal with the tire shop. A racing buddy gets an even better deal; his race prep shop lets him mount his own tires for free. His tire mounting training came in handy at the last NASA race. ECR had no tire guy but, they let us use the machine it’s not that hard.

Yeah Larry -- The prices around here have gotten silly for mounting and balancing. I carried a tire and wheel into a Tires Plus store and the guy wanted $45 to mount and balance it. I had a few nasty things to say to him.

$20-$25 is an average where I live but some are higher.

I've had four tires mounted for as little as a $20 bill "under the table" to the local independent tire shop guy. But I can't count on that on a regular basis. Maybe next time I'll sweeten the deal with a $20 bill and a 12 pack of beer.

It used to be a 12 pack, but that guy retired. Then I was able to use the machines at a local factory, but that guy retired too. Now I'm stuck to doing it by hand, or paying $18 per tire.

I got ripped by a lovely local P-car shop in McLean for 100 bucks a corner for mounting 18' Hoosiers- they claimed part of the cost was to dispose of the tires... I've never been back and now pay $15 at Radial Tire in Silver Spring.

yeah, but they use "special equipment"
that's what they tried to sell me as i smiled and walked away.

i just paid $16 per wheel @ C2 Motorsports in San Diego.

http://www.c2racers.com/

They use the Hunter 3500 series machine to "caress" the beads away from the rim.
Two rotating wheels roll around the bead and "gently push" the bead to break it.

Steve, the owner tells me he can even do the massive corvette 335 X 19s with relative ease.

Most shops here charge 20 - 25.
It's So. Cal. don't ya know!

I wonder if the tires moan as they're being "dis-mounted"?

Actually those Hunter machines cost over $10K, so at $15 per tire, it takes A LOT of tire mountings to pay for it. I'd love one, but my little $2K machine works just fine.
