HI All,

Can anyone recommend some approximately 5-gallon fuel cans that I could use for the track? The car being fueled is a 99 Boxster. Also can anyone recommend some sort of funnel as well to get the car in the car?

I'll need to carry these fuel jugs in my Cayenne or conceivably in the Boxster if they'll fit. Are some fuel cans better than others for transporting inside a car like a Cayenne? I don't want to trash the inside of my SUV!

I wouldn't carry either of the jugs full in the Cayenne or the Boxster. I'd set something up on your 'new' trailer.

I've used both VP Fuel jugs and Hunsacker jugs.
FWIW, I prefer the Hunsacker fuel jugs for the car and VP for my son's kart.
The Hunsacker jugs are a bit easier to lift/balance.

As for a funnel, make sure you get one that has a built in screen and a wrap around lip (helps prevent spilling).

Two fuel jugs fit nicely in the front truck of the boxster. I'll leave it to you to decide if you want them full or not.

Also look at the NJ thread to see what you need at NJMP - IIRC the jugs just have to be red?

I guess carrying them in the tow vehicle wasn't the smartest thing I've thought of! I think in the front trunk of the Boxster wouldn't be so bad from a safety point of view.
I'll have to really examine my trailer closely to see if there is some place to secure fuel jugs. There's really only room toward the back which I think could be bad in a rear end collision!

Can I assume people DO carry the jugs in their tow vehicles just for trips back and forth from the track (i.e. during an event)?

These people manufacture lots of goodies. Some may attach to your trailer. I would not worry too much about impact with the jugs mounted to the side. Very common.

put those in the nose of your mud/rock guard and add some straps to hold the jugs down.

Dave you can keep the cans empty until you get there or if you mount them on the trailer wait till you're close to the track. You can always hitch a ride with someone else to get fuel if you don't want to put it in the boxster. If I'm around I'd be happy to help out as would most anyone else.

Thanks. There may be a little room in each corner behind the mud guard. The car's nose is probably only 4 inches from the guard when on the trailer. I'll have to play around and see if there are some places on the trailer that I can put those bins. Maybe I can make it removable like the fenders.

don't get a funnel. Get a hose that you stick in direclty. Safer than a funned and alot faster. You can get 1 hose for both cans and just swap it around.

Get an extra cap for the hose too. That way the jugs are sealed up and legal during transport. A cap with a hose is not DOT legal for fuel.

We really like the Hunsaker fuel jugs. Have been using them for 5 years. We have some on backorder but tough to get. If your fuel insert is stock, it takes a standard amount of time to dump the jug. Going to a 1.5" fuel insert, Hunsaker dumps the a 5-gallon jug in about 10 seconds. Comes with a nylon hose. We only sell the 5-gallon. The larger capacity are too heavy once filled to manuever.
