This is why you don't camp in the left lane in Germany

Driving on the Autobahn is much more enjoyable than the US Highways.
It is amazing when someone passes you like that your car get rocked from the wind the car is pushing.

I'm also extremely tired of the damn a-holes that camp in the left lane. I guess being from a foreign country and actually reading the rules makes it worse, cause the rule is "left lane is for passing". It drives me bonkers....I think, most of them just don't get the awareness and its more a "i'll do whatever i want and drive how I want personality"

There was a recent episode of Super Cars or whatever it's called and Tanner Faust was driving on the Autobahn going about that speed in a Ferrari or something.
I was waiting for him to wipe out....
The problem is even with light traffic, some car could pull out to pass around a truck or something....

My autobahn story was leaving the German F1 GP in '90 is a Fiat rent-a-piece.
The police had the RH lane of the AB and the curb lane as traffic filter lanes. There was a Testarossa in the curb lane and I ended up in the RH autobahn as we entered the flow. I had that little Fiat floored just to keep up with traffic as it accelerated.............then the RedHead swooped behind me and gone followed by every other rocket sports car.
Every car leaving the GP was a F1 driver so the poor Fiat was soon relegated to the RH lane where it stayed.............humbled.
BTW.........trucks wont cut into the middle lane, they're restricted to the RH but dont get in there way............they're doing 130.

Trucks don't go that fast anymore on the autobahn. Price of petrol and there are more speed restrictions on trucks due to the "green direction" Germany has committed too. I also noticed on our last trip that mostly the very wealthy can afford the 8miles per gallon fuel economy costs at high speed.

Awesome video. Good thing it was in Germany and not in the US. Here some lady on her cell phone would have been in the left lane, with no clue what was going on around her.
I have been driving a lot on the German Autobahns, and on European freeways in general. The rule is stay in the right lane, unless you are passing, and use the rear view mirror all the time. Absolutely no passing on the right side. Why don't the Americans get this? I have lived in the US for 5 years, and every day their lack of driving basic knowledge is scaring me. A couple of years ago my daughter got her driver's license here in the US, and I used the oportunity to study the trafic rules and regulations over here. They are basically the same as in Europe, slower traffic to the right, passing to the left. Why is it that there is complete anarchy on US highways, nobody follows the rules, and the police don't care? I probably address the question in the wrong forum, I assume most drivers here are more aware of their surroundings. But still, everyday driving in Houston makes me scared, frustrated and even angry about peoples lack of basic traffic awereness, rules and choice of lane. And the only rule the police know about is the speed limit...
Any comments, fellow rennlisters?
