Default How cold can you run track tires?

High of 45 degrees is forecast for Thursday's Lime Rock event. Is that too cold for track tires? Would good street tires (PS2s) perform better?

As long as you can get heat into them almost any temp works (if the surface is dry). I have run them as low as 25F, but then the problem is not getting into trouble while warming them up. Spinning the rears and very hard braking is the safe bet vs. figures of 8 (Below 45F, cold R Comps are nasty slippery).

While you can run R comps at that temp, I would run the PS2s for at least the morning sessions. If the high will get to 45, it will be much lower in the AM.

Bingo!!! Increase your slip angle and predict the slide/tail. Do this in corners that have lots of rooms to screw up. I have run in sleet on R6/s, wets, and MPSC's and it takes some ***** to get the tires angry enough. Then your golden.

Start your pressures higher and bleed down. About 4 psi higher than normal cold, but always work towards the hot temps you normally want.

We've run the R6's down as low as just above freezing; as noted, just have to start the pressures higher.

You can run 'em as cold as you dare...

Dand86951 and I went to the track last year when it was about 25° or so and warmed up to 45° by the afternoon. I was on azenis and Dan on Victoracers I think. In the morning below freezing, I was faster with the azenis and once it warmed up a bit in the afternoon, Dan was faster. We were doing 15-20 minute sessions. Normally when we are both with the same tires, we are nearly dead even.
