McLaren Singapore Mission Control Video

This is incredible to me. I knew the teams watched the telemetry on the cars all the time, but I had no idea it was like this. It looks like Apollo 13, but its a damn race car!!

Coolio! Note how they have purposely blurred the images of some of the larger monitors at the front of the room. Such secret squirrel games they play....

Bloody hell! That's truly amazing. If you ever wondered how F1 teams manage to spend several hundred million dollars per season, this might help explain it. Staggering amounts of data, and every last bit of it consumed and analysed by a very qualified team. The model is very much mission control-like. Impressive. Extreme.

Insane? Well, F1 is the bleeding edge of racing technology and this just shows how much broader that technology has become, right?

Very cool. Explains where some of the money is going, and why less wealthy teams have trouble competing.

Thanks for the link. I was under the impression that the engineers were on the wall or in the garage. You learn something new everyday.

It appeared that those monitors were displaying on track footage. It looked more like they were blurred b/c McLaren/Vodafone and/or the blog to which this video was posted didn't have permission from the rights holder to rebroadcast that footage rather than trying to cover up secrets.

I bet the monitors had Ferrari data/video on them...

If the Tour de France organizers were in charge, they'd take away all telemetry and they could only communicate with pit boards....

I don't think NASA had that much technology on the Apollo 13 mission. Holy cow. Thanks for the link.
