Default My New Open Trailer - I'm so excited!

Hi All,

As many of you predicted, it was just a matter of time before I bought a trailer. It is an open trailer so I can still fully graduate to an enclosed one some day! I bought this very nice and well maintained Featherlite from a fellow PCAer in my region. He customized it with a tire rack, spare tire carrier, and a set of diamond plate ramps that dovetail with the Featherlite ramps. Everything he put on the trailer is also lockable which is a nice feature.

I installed a Valley Odyssey brake modulator unit in the Cayenne (thanks to ltc ) which seemed to work very well with the trailer. I set the unit as directed and the manual trailer brake works nicely.

I will be mainly towing my 986 which weighs 2750 stock. It will lose a few hundred pounds this winter! Driving today with the car on the trailer revealed no issues with both the trailer and my Cayenne. I will be going to my last DE of the season next weekend at NHMS which will be the trailer real inaugural tow. It’s only about 90 miles from here so I figure that will be a good first experience for me.

Did I mention how excited I am? I’ve wanted this for so long. I am lucky that I have a wife that understands my obsessions. As she puts it, I’m lucky that I have a hobby that I’m so passionate about.

BTW,….I love the big Porsche crest that the previous owner put on the stone guard!!!!!

And now for some gratuitous pics!!!!!!!!

Very nice setup. I would love to have that rack. Heck I would love to have my trailer made from aluminum and not steel and wood!

However I am lucky that, like you, my wife is very understanding and supportive of my hobby/habit/addiction. When I try to get a trade up to a new diesel truck and an enclosed trailer, she might turn on her inner CPA though

Enjoy that thing... should do very well for you.

Oh well, I could'nt resist. Here's my new trailer I purchased last week. No tire rack (yet), but it's in fantastic shape.

Mine (purchased 2nd hand earlier this year)

How did I survive without it?
(cayman wheels on the rack were hauled for a trailerless friend)

Congrats Coochas!

Crossing the straps and running them through your rear wheels can be problematic. Can impact your alignment. Better to install tie downs if you want to cross the straps ... or just run the left strap to the left wheel and right to right. Nice trailer.

Thanks.
I installed front tie down mounts via the jacking point (Rennline) although I still secured the car through the front wheels.
I do have some 66 degree mounts for the rear that I will likely put on later this week.

Glad to help Dave. Congrats. You got a fantastic trailer, and you'll love the flexibility that trailering offers.

Where will you be installing the rear mounts?
I just got a trailer also and have the same front mounts as you, but not sure where to put rear ones..

Thanks
