Default Impact of a G50/21 trans on PCA Class????

After a number of years of DE I will likely be entering racing next year. A few years ago I added a G50/21 trans to my 1995 993. Thats a factory gearbox, but was supplied in the ROW cars and has shorter gears than the US cars were supplied with. If I leave that box in the car will it move me to stock prepared or worse. I have an e-mail into PCA, but I'm curious today, so I thought I'd ask you guys as well.

Thanks
Jeff

I believe there is a rule regarding "euro" cars that is a one class up. Not sure if this would be another class up from prepared "I". Jeff you may want to look at GTS3 where Tom and I run in NASA.

Yeah, just trade it with my stock tranny and you'll be an instant winner...

I always thought any gearbox other than the one that was as delivered would be an automatic bump to GT. A ring and pinion change would result in a bump to prepared. If I'm wrong, I'll be saving my coin for a new Euro gearbox so I can run in H.

Adding a Euro gearbox to a US spec car does not a Euro car make, at least as far as I understand it. I hope you are right and I am wrong!

I asked that same question back in 2003. I was told that the Euro gearbox would bring my MY95 car to prepared. The Euro model, falls under the "updating, backdating" rule. If you modify the car to Euro specs its a form of updating and you got to have the same specs as a Euro car. Much like updating to RS specs. If the box is not altered and its a true factory G50/21 then on the MY 94/95 when it was offered for sale it will bring the car up to Euro specs, as far as I know the US early 95's are identical to the Euro once with the exception of the gearbox and miscellaneous bumperretes etc. An added bonus if you are updating the car to Euro specs is that you can also add the factory RSCS wing kit as it was offered publicly for sale on Euro models unlike the ones sold in the US. I guess if you have a 96 and on 993 you would need to backdate to 95 specs to qualify for the Euro designation as the G50/21 was only offered on the early 95 model year...

Thanks for the input so far...I feel better about my own confusion now.

DJF1 - I really hope you are correct!

The Big reds are easy and relatively cheap to reverse. The trans is another story. In the end being bumped to prepared is fine it's GT I want to avoid.

No matter what is said here, I would wait for the official word from Donna, do what she says, print out the email, and keep it with the car just in case someone every questions you.

I have a set of the g50/21 gears should anyone need them. The rule has always been the Euro box bput You in prepared since it was the one the Euro cars were delivered with.
