NJMP - Thunderbolt v Lightning

Rick,
A couple suggestions:
1. Rotate your tires often.
2. Check your CV joints for getting loose and grease breaking down.
3. Check brakes often, bleed them each day.
4. A good fast lap on Tbolt is close to 1:30-31 (no chicane).
A good lap at Lightning is 1:12 to 1:14.
5. Play with shock setting.
6. Bring a tent for at Lightning as you are very exposed.
7. Close the windows on your tow vehicle or you may have a small army
of flies in it when you tow home.
8. Bring RED fuel jugs as most of the staff won't pump into any other
container and it takes awhile to get fuel (full service NJ rules etc)
Have fun!!!

What's up with New Jersey regs; this sounds even worse than the People's Republic of MA?

Hey. I think they screwed up the names of the tracks. Shouldn't they be Lightning Bolt and Thunder Clap?
I've only run Lightning, so can't give a comparison yet. In two months I'll know. Lightning was very high fuel consumption. Maybe because for me I was full throttle almost the whole way around there. I'm not a big fan of turns that last forever, like the Light Bulb. I guess I won't be looking forward to the Octopus either. They could of broke the Light Bulb up into multiple radius corners to make it more interesting.

Three Wheelin'
To answer your ?: IMHO, Lightning is has more rhythm, turns tend to flow, and the 'lightbulb' (the banked decreasing radius large turn at the N end) dominates the drive somewhat. Thunderbolt is more 'technical' with the 'jersey devil'/octopuss dominating; At bottom line, you need to get the last turn of the same 'right' so as to be flat out thru the esses and then the straight. Getting it right (as there are multiple ways of attacking same) is the fun with the payoff being evidenced by higher top end speed at the braking zone to 1. Also, there are a couple of chicanes on TBolt which can be fun if used (and which change up the course).
Have fun and see you there!

Novice here...and I have yet to do Lightining (will have to wait till next season)...but I had a 3-day blast in July at Thunderbolt.
I agree with the "technical" term that someone else used to describe the octopus....but I really enjoyed the track.
It was interesting how many different lines there were through the octopus...from tire-scrubbing to yipppeeee....
When my instructor had me change lines (last run of the first day) it made a huge difference....
Have fun !
