Default The track blaster is complete.

Ok Dudes...

First thing is first. A HUGE thank you to Mr. Todd Ketchum, Sr. and the gang at J3 Motorsports in Buford, GA. Not only have they helped me put this car together (putting up with one rather anxious dude (me) buggin them on a weekly basis) but Todd did an outstanding job. His work has been nothing short **** in his attention to every detail. The welds he did just on the exhaust are simply art. So I extend a big hearty thank you. Big time.

There are only a few remaining bits to put on the car. Paint the roll bar, install some interior bits, etc. Small stuff. As soon as the remaining stuff is completed, I will take better photos.

With regards to how it runs - Man this thing is going to be F-U-N. Not a single bit of body roll in corners and the throttle response is unbelievable. If any of you get the opportunity to drop a 968 motor in your car...

...DO IT!!

Here is the car as of tonight.

Excellent Chad. Now with all said and done, can you still call it a budget track car??

Good stuff Chad. Do you know how much it weighs yet? What mods are you allowed to run?

Still have a small list of stuff to finish on the car. Misc stuff like a fire extinguisher, painting the roll bar, etc.

Overall, here is the list of work, parts and upgrades.

Starter Car: 1989 944 S2 Coupe
Mileage at start: 147K
Purchased late June 2008

Work done:

Engine / Drivetrain:

Replacement engine: 1995 968 engine with approx 60K on it (with harness)
Custom DME software
Oil Cooler (27" x 4")
Crank scraper
S2 flywheel & damper
New belts, rollers, water pump, chain tensioner, plugs, wires, cap & rotor
New rod bearings
Modified oil pan baffle
AC delete (in progress)
Reinforced oil pick up
New clutch (includes lines, guides and bearings)
Replaced torque tube (60K miles)
Replaced shifter
New coupling on transmission
New half shafts
New CV's
Solid trans mount
Shorter Turbo 5th gear

Exhaust:

Racer's Edge 968 headers
Flow through CAT
Full custom 3" exhaust (cat-back) (J3 Motorsports)
Hooker 3" flow through muffler

Suspension & Brakes:

Ground Control / Koni adjustable coilovers
600# front and 500# rear springs
968 M030 adjustable sway bars (w/ front reinforcements)
Ground Control camber plates
BK strut tower brace
Delrin & poly bushings throughout
Replaced front control arms (OE, looking into custom fabbed ones)
Removed rear torsion bars
968 CS front air ducts
SS brake lines (retained non-M030 brakes)
PFC 97 pads (to be installed)

Exterior & wheels:

Patrick racing front aero splitter
CF front fenders
CF front fog covers
Rattle can painted 996/boxster twist wheels (8.5x17 & 9x17)
Tire choice - TBD

Interior:

Custom 4 point roll bar (J3 Motorsports) (likely going to full next year)
Stripped interior of all carpet, padding, etc
Custom CF RS style door panels
Custom CF center console
Rewired all needed components with HD switches
Rennline floor pans (to be installed)
Sparco Evo 2L seats w/ BK brackets
Fixed sunroof
G-Force 5pt harnesses
Momo suede steering wheel (w/ 1" extended hub)
Custom shift lever / **** / boot

I think that's it. I am likely forgetting a couple items. It has been a ton of work via my own time and also with J3. I am sure I will have to work out a couple bugs. At the moment the oil cooler fitting are leaking a bit. But all-in-all, the car pulls amazingly well. I really look forward to getting out on the track once the rod bearings are seated. I'll post up some final pics once I get the car 100% there.

C.
