Any pics of Aim Dash on 996 with dashboard removed?
I ran across a picture on the Internet the other day of a 996, probably a Cup Car, with a custom fabricated dash and an Aim MXL installed. I can't find the picture, does anyone have a picture of that? Or know of a car that is setup like that?

Most people just get a piece of black dash plastic, insert it where the normal dash goes and either mount the Aim dash in front of the plastic or cut out a hole in the plastic and make it that way. Mine is just a piece of dash plastic with the Aim dash mounted on top of the steering column but in front of the plastic.

I've seen some done like that. I don't want to hassle with the dash though since I don't have to for class rules. We removed a lot of extra "stuff" while putting the cage in -- some of that stuff supported the dash....The knee bar is going up higher.

I'm working on an IQ3 install today. I'm also having a hard time figuring out how to mount the dash. I mocked this idea up in thin sheet aluminum. I could drill four spots on the plastic steering column housing and one hole on the underside of the upper dash lip.
Not sure if you guys have any better (and more secure ideas). Let me know what you think. If this looks good, I'll fab it up in thicker sheet aluminum.
Other option is to remove all the plastic trim pieces around the steering column and mount directly to the square metal bracket that holds the turn signal and washer control handles.
I'm trying to maintain a slightly more "stockish" looking interior (and I'm not quite sure about how the 996 steering column differs from my 993 in terms of mounting a data logger)

hi glen.
you might want to brace that aluminum bracket with some gussets; i think it might vibrate back and forth when you are on track, and make it difficult to read the info on your display....

Yep, 1/8 sheet for the mounting braket, and use 1.8 for the side gussets also.
The material in your pic looks like 22g, which is way too flimsy.
Also ^ +1 on using Al that will take a tight 90 degree bend without cracking.
