They make "cuffs" that you can put over the straps to protect them. I've swiped a pair off of some of the old wrap-around straps that I had. They are the black sleeves pictured below.

I dont think you have much to worry about there Bill....my strap setup is identical and dont have any issues with many, many tow days.

It sounds like it. They go over the belt and protect it. I just took the sleeves (or cuffs) off and slid them onto the long straps to prevent chafing where they crossed. But I agree that with what you have pictured, you really don't need to be concerned about it.

Could always uncross those belts. I've heard it argued that straight straps are better than crossed anyway. YMMV.

I see no problem with your set-up (crossed or uncrossed). You should be good to go. In case you have too much rubbing on the straps you will see fraying long, long before one of the belts give way.

Bill, I did the same as you have pictured, crossing over the center rail, on a very similar trailer for several years and never had a problem with fraying.

In the front you can buy a T-Hookfrom any towing concern for a few dollars that makes this the preferred and easiest spot to tie down.. Givers you a little more clearance also.

Thanks guys! Now if I can only keep it straight going on and off....

VB, I can't quite picture what that would look like.

This goes in the factory front tie down spot. It sticks down so it gives you more room for the straps under the car. Make sense? Plus I just left this connected to my strap, and fit the T into the hole and off you go..
