One for the BMW guys and anyone else....
For a long time I've been hunting down a way to improve the brakes in my 951. I am not alone in finding them soft from time to time. I've got all the 'right' upgrades so that's all ok.
I am contemplating moving up in Caliper size. I wouldn't do this without doing something with the Master Cylinder. There has been a bit of an Urban myth that there was an MC from a 1980's 7 Series BMW that has larger pistons and will fit into our setup. This was also apparently an upgrade for BM guys in the day.

Has anyone done this or know anything about it? I really want to track down what this MC is. I need a part number and better still someone to point me in the right direction to buy one.
Any info is appreciated as this has been a bit of a quest.
The top pic is showing the 2 BMW ones with the 25mm being the upgrade. The bottom pic is of the stock 951 post '86.

Race Car
I think I'm running the 23mm MC... w/ a set of 4 piston calipers from a 1988 bmw 735, on some 1976 (911) struts. (IIRC).
I do remember swapping the MC from the stock 71 mc but can't remember the mm, but 23mm sounds right.. the 25mm MC part# is what you are after, Correct?

Hi Patrick,
Just as a heads up following the long Big Red thread where several people noticed soft pedal. I ran the Big Reds for the first time at last weekends club race and was amazed at how hard the pedal felt for the whole weekend. Before I had the MO30 calipers and did notice some softening (suspect this was down to the old rubber brake lines I replaced over the winter) however the big reds with new PFC97 pads were amazing. I know I am down on power on you as I only have 250bhp but wonder if it is something else?

Race Car
can't help with your specific question, but my addition to this thread is:
after spending $600 on a new master cylinder in my E36 M3 racecar, all it needed was new rear pads to firm up the pedal again.
I'm assuming you've covered all the bases?
good pads (race pads like PFC01 or similar) with lots of life
good fluid (I use Motul 600)
good lines
good rotors
good booster

I've had soft pedal many times with this car. It could easily be something else but I'm looking to upgrade to bigger calipers than Big Reds for a few reasons. Mostly for the incoming engine with a lot more than stock hp. We're looking at doing some upgrades in the braking dept.
