I have seen mutiple stock ones fail in that area. They crack in the groove formed by the metal that wraps around the round barrel. I have spare ones with me all the time just incase I see my cracking at the track.

FWIW, I think the boxing helps reinforce that point as well, by reducing overall flexing. I actually had an incident last year where my car was hit in the left front hard enough to shear the bracket at the base of the strut. I was able to rebuild the corner with borrowed parts. But the boxed control arm was also bent, such that although we got the tires aligned enough to roll straight, the wheelbase was 1" different between the L & R sides.
I ran the car the following day, and did pretty well. When I later replaced the control arm I did discover a small crack on the top side, near the bushing, that we had missed at the track. But I firmly believe the boxing of the control arm made it that much stouter, and able to better put up with the abuse.
I have never seen a boxed control arm that's otherwise undamaged to show any signs of cracking in the bushing area. OEM control arms, however, are susceptible to cracking under hard driving.

i actually thing the boxing puts MORE load in that are since it is less likely to flex. This that weak are sees more load.
It is a good idea to have a spare arm at the track. They are only $25 or so and can be swapped with ease. They do bend, but when they bend they often protect other parts that are more expensive or harder to replace. IN 2003 I went off track and bent one pretty bad. However I swapped it with a new one and still won my race later that day.
