David
I tow a 964 with a 17.5' '07 featherlite 3110. Have a custom box on the front end with tires above. Loaded box and tires, took car to a shop I use, and used their scales to figure out where to place the car to get the tongue weight I wanted. Put wheel stops so car is always in perfect position. Box plus tires is below the roof line of my SUV (Toyota Seq), but still acts as a shield to keep road detritus off the car.
Playing with the idea selling it to go enclosed though.

I'm in the market too.
Whats the shortest (single) length you guys would recommend- a 996 is like 14.5' and a 964 a little shorter. Is 16' just too short?
My pick-up has a towing capacity of 6500 lbs and room for tires but I still might have a tirerack installed on the trailer.
