Wrecked 944 at R ATL need cheap body parts, complete race car, roller, parts car
When my quick disconnct steering wheel decided to disconnect at 107 MPH (GPS verified) I hit the wall in Turn 9 at RA. I have pulled the car apart and it is rebuildable since the basic tub is straight, but it might be easier to replace the the whole thing. I am located in Beaufort, SC.
I need the following:
Left Fender
Left Door
Left Rear Quarter
Left rear bumper corner piece
Manual steering rack
I will replace the suspension parts with new ones.

Dan, It was the kind with the ring in the back that you squeeze to release, with three little ball bearings that fit into a groove. I think it just wore out. I am religious about checking that it is properly seated before I go out on the track. It was seated, but somehow disconnected anyway.

Hell.....
That aint nuthin. You'd be farther ahead to repair it FOR SURE. Guess this sort of "solves" your cut-out problem for a while... eh?
That's why I am positively **** and even NEUROTIC about tugging on my steering wheel REPEATEDLY before I get out to the track.
Glad you're OK.

John,
I know of a nice looking 944 N/A for sale near Atlanta. Asking $2550. Let me know if you want me to get you the number. BTW, I spoke to you at the medical center, I was working safety that day. Glad you are OK.

Trust me I always tug the wheel and did this time. The wheel release has been on the car for a long time and I think the groove is worn. Just one more thing to check.

There are a couple 944s at the shop that actually run and could be used as donor, parts, or new race car. Call Doug at Vortex Motorsport and he can give you come info on cost. 813.874.1911

John,
Your prayers may be answered - Complete undamaged tub for $100
See https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ighlight=shell
More fast if you are interested - it wont last long!
BTW, having done this myself a year ago don't underestimate the work involved in re-tubbing your car. Its well worth the effort, but there's a LOT of effort involved.
Hope this works out for you.
