Default Shopping for 18" Wheels - Suggestions?

OK, a few months ago I made a trade for a set of 18" CCW C14 wheels because I wanted to "try" a set to see if I liked them and if they improved handling as I was going to jump a class in PCA and NASA.

So far I LOVE 'em!!

In looking for a set of USED, good quality forged race wheels (CCW, Fikse, Forgeline, etc.) in 18" for my 964, I'm not having having much luck in finding any.

CCW wheels are $2,800 for a set, Fikses (my favorite) are almost $4K and haven't checked the rest but not really interested...

I found some "neat" wheels on Tire Rack, $400 each, color choices and all...an OZ Design but they're cast...NOPE, not going to use that for track work.

Does anyone have any suggestions on "other" manufacturers to consider that make high quality FORGED wheels? With today's economy, I'm just not interested in spending in the $3K or better range...there has got to be a more reasonable solution??

FWIW, I'm looking for a set of 18" x 8/8.5/9" for the front and 18" x 10" for the rear...the CCWs I'm using now are 18" x 9" front and 18" x 10" rear and fit PERFECTLY with only a 6mm spacer on the rear...using Hankook 275s and neg. camber setup for racing.

Any help, suggestions or offers for 18" wheelsets would be appreciated.

You might reconsider those new OZs. I've been reading good things about them and they are reportedly extremely strong and light. They are race wheels by the way and if you damage one, the replacement is easy to get and inexpensive.

Jeff-
I picked up a beautiful set of BBS LM's w/ R6's on them from a fellow lister last year for $2100 in the same size and love them.
Put an ad in the Tire & Wheel section of RL and see what pops up.

There was a set of 18" Volk TE-37's on 6speed online a week or so ago, may want to look there also.

The wheels look decent and from a known manufacturer as well - BUT, I can't see the sense in using a cast wheel on the track...seen too many of them break.

Do you have any sources or reading material that suggested these were good candidates for trackwork? I'd consider a set, but it seems they are on back-order and most sizes/colors not available until late May.

I kinda like the dark gray/satin black look these days...considering that...

smlporsche - will probably put a want ad up but looking for suggestions at the moment.

Try Forgeline. I have heard nothing but good reviews on their wheels plus they are a PCA sponsor.

have you considered a set of CCW classics? Great wheels and about $600 cheaper than your C14's

CCW is absolutly the best bang for the buck.

Lots of nice forged wheels out there from BBS, Volk and Foreline but they are extremely expensive compared to the CCW forged wheels and the CCW wheels are just as strong and good.

I saw the OZ cast wheels you are talking about. They are not availbe now until the end of May. They keep getting pushed back for some reason.

I've been using OZs for a few years now and I love them.

They are very strong and very light. They are also dirt cheap compared to many of the others mentioned.

For the M3 I run 18x9 Ultraleggeras that TireRack.com currently sells for $333! The equivalent BBS RGR is $835. It's no better a wheel.

They are also a one piece so totally maintenance free. I wish I could say that for my BBS Motorsport 3-pc wheels.

We run the CCWs on our E46 M3. I got a deal used. I still prefer the OZs though if I were buying new. Buy a set and have enough money left over for tires.

I ran the OZ Ultraleggeras on the track on my M3 for 3 years straight and never had an issue with them. They sure were "well used", but never a problem. They were extremely light and strong - made me a believer. As to the new Alleggerita, I can only go by what I experienced with a previous similar offering by OZ as well as reports on this new wheel I've read online (try a google).

Anyone try the Enkei race wheel NT03+M, available in 18x10 and 18x8.5, POrsche 5x130 bolt pattern, i know it fits the 968, and usually wheels for the 964 and 993 also fit
See RSBarn.com, a 968 specialist or Tirerack carries them but they do not list a Porsche fitment, also Vivid racing

For track work I would recommend avoiding 3-piece. With all the heat and stress they will likely leak. I've had HRE and BBS. Both are reputed to be excellent. Even real BBS Magnesium Motorsport rims. They all leak. It's a huge pain in the a$$. I've even had the modular bolts break and the rim halves separate.

2-piece is fine. If the rim is one piece from inner to outer lip you are fine. But try to avoid 3-piece.

I have a set of Volk TE37's and love them. They are forged, freakishly light, beautifully made and pretty inexpensive too.
