Cheap fire extinguisher mount
Taking orders...............Not
2 seat belt fittings $40 (from 1992 bmw?)
1 piece of scrap aluminum $?
2 Hoseclamps @ $1.49 each
4 Heavy duty rivets $.1.60
1 2.5 lb fire extinguisher ? cannot remember
In and out very quickly!
DE Tech form dictates metal to metal connection.

I don't think that would pass tech at some PCA events. PCA's NER requires the bracket be attached to something metal. Your bracket will bounce around. If it comes free it could be ugly..

I appreciate your creativity too, but I don't think it will pass tech either. It's not secured completely, and there are two places to disconnect for use instead of one. Even if it did pass tech, it would be moving back and forth across the carpet a bit in every turn, and would probably saw through the carpet eventually.

How do you actually get the extinguisher out of the hose clamps? Carrying a screw driver around in the car would not pass tech either.

So the scruts are going to say: "No, remove this entirely-optional device just because it won't be convenient enough to use?" If that's true, they have their heads up their asses.
No it's not optimal, but it's just an optional device like a cup holder or chase cam. So as long as there's no risk of it creating a problem, it's fine.
It's not for me, but I got a chuckle out of your creativity!

Hmmmm, it's very rigid, I removed spacers from belt mounts so it does not bounce, it's not likely to come free since it was designed to restrain something that weighs a LOT more, and the connectors are spring loaded so two pushes on the red buttons and you are on your way. Sideways movement is minimal and 4 track days a year will not do too much damage to the carpet given the smoothness of the bottle. Again the purpose is simplicity for the casual DE participant.

Hmm.. I'm not convinced that those seat buckles won't pop open. But even if they hold tight your placement and the use of hose clamps are an issue. You need to be able to reach the extinguisher quickly and release from its bracket from the driver's seat. I'm not sure you can do this. And to Eric's point, extinguishers are not optional when running DE events.

I know most of us do not use or spend much thought about the rear seats but if you connect rear seat belt, unload belt tension, push red button the male end is spit out with decent force. I do not even have to look anymore. I just reach back, pop, pop, and I am done. The round shape of the bottle and the 90 degree relationship of the bracket and male connectors practically hand you the whole piece? To make it super legal I may find some rear metal cable compatible receptors?

Livefree- better check your region! If it's required, then your installation is iffy.

Yup, it is definitely iffy. I wish it was a cabriolet for a day so I could strap it to a chain hoist and lift the car up with it! I will make another bracket that bolts to holes in hump and use a single metal strap. I will convert this prototype to hold a few bottles of water/pistol/extra mags/radar gun.............you get the idea.
