FS: Anyone need a GPS Based Laptimer for Road Atlanta this weekend $250
I have a GPS based Laptimer for sale. I have used this solution for the past 6 months and really like it. I built 3. One for me, another for a friend and this one as a back-up. The system has been so reliable I am selling the back-up for what it cost me to put it together.
I will bring this with me to Road Atlanta, fully charged and ready to use.[
B]Update[/B]Price is $250 delivered to Road Atlanta this weekend, with free installation (takes at least 5 minutes) and operating instructions (another 5 minutes).
It works as follows:
The GPS (about 1X2 inches) mounts anywhere in the car with a view of the sky I use the dash, but the rear window also works.
The Nokia mounts either to the windshield or in "stealth mode", you can put it in your pocket. it uses bluetooth so no wires are needed.
During the session it displays your best (or previous) lap time and your last lap time. it stores the track layout and you add the start finish and splits. It shows green if you are ahead of your best split/lap and red if you're behind.
Now the good part. While you can download the output to a PC for analysis ala Traqmate. You can actually view each lap on the Nokia, immediately after the session. It shows where you were on the track and what speed you were going.
The Noka E61 also works as a cellphone for any US or international system using sim cards.
It comes with the following:
Nokia E61 Smartphone. Used, unlocked
Gtop Bluetooth Gps New
Cables and chargers
1 Gbyte memory card
Windshield mount for cell phone New
Velcro for mounting the GPS.
Software for PC analysis.

Sorry, no camera on the phone. It does export to TrackVision (also Google Earth, and Performance Box software) so you can interface it to your videos. It also doesn't have Direct G readings, but the PC software calculates them.
All the software used is available for download on the Internet. The Performance Box software allows you to do detailed lap comparisons between your own laps or someone else's laps. You can do this on the Nokia also, but the screen is kind of small.

That is a FANTASTIC idea. Do you think that you could program the same software for Blackberry and iphones? You stand to make a few hundred grands if you can.... I reckon that there are at least 100 guys per home track who would get it and if you count 40/50 tracks in the us, you can sell 4000 times 250 bucks = 1 mill!

Can you make that for the new E71? Or is the E61 a better phone?
Oh yeah and take some pics of the software as it shows on the computer screen.
I do need a new phone and I love gadgets, may be interested.

Just velcro that Nokia to the steering wheel and also use it as a lap timer. That's what I did with the PDA that bluetooth connects to MaxQdata. If you have a 'time since last here' function it is great as a predictive lap timer and for qualifying.
Properly marketed I think you have a great product! I'm sure many DE participants would jump at the chance to pickup the software and gps module for use with their existing phones. $$$$$$

Don't get too excited. I didn't write the software. I just downloaded it and set-up the hardware. its a product called RaceChrono and only works on Nokia Smartphones. I have tried MaxQdata, but I like this software a lot better. Its simpler to use and better integrated. FYI the website is http://racechrono.com/
Its no problem reading the display in bright daylight and the software disables the battery saver when in timer mode.
