Used to use something called Swarfega (spelling probably wrong) back in the UK. Green jelly type substance. Worked really well. I've never seen it over here in the USA but would love to find some.

brake cleaner and the nearest rag. My hands only get clean near the end of diving vacations. Takes many days of pickeling them in salt water to work the dirt out. Real dirty work gets gloves if I remember first, day to day dirty barehanded and dishsoap and yes they look it. I used to work for a chain of healthclubs that had day spas in them. One of the spa managers asked me if I wanted a free manicure. I held up my hands and she gasped.
Content....Microflex makes a double thick blue latex glove that seems to stand up well. I sometimes get a full day out of a pair. Clean them a bit before pulling them off and leave them inside out to air dry. You have to work with not killing the gloves in mind for them to last.

+1 on gloves!
I haven't used any type of "hand cleaner" in who knows how many years. Latex or nitrile ...the best "cleaner" is to not get grungy.
