What is the advantage or disadvantage to uhf vs vhf? What power do you need to cover a +3 mile road course?

I've found UHF to be more common for track use but you may need a quickie FCC license. This write-up is a good place to start on race radios: http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Race_Radios.

Terry, have you not talked to Greg about this? He will know exactly what your needs are as he has your car!

Hey Terry,
If you're interested I have the "pro" radio set up that came with my new car availabe. I took it out and put my old setup in since thats what all the guys I run with have and I already had the entire system. Let me know and I'll get you all the info on it. By the way how'd you make out with the sale of the Koni car? Those wheels still availabe????

Yup, great line of sight performance, lousy performance with terrain and/or buildings.

UHF generally has less line of sight performance but does better with terrain & buildings, IIRC.
