Howdy,
I am running a 944 in a series that has a controlled Dunlop slick which can only be purchased from a single authorised supplier. I currently run 210/640/R18s on 8.5 inch rims the front with 250/640/R18s on 10 inch rims on the rear.
No problems at all with this setup, except lately I am interested in running wider rubber all around. I have established that my rear rim/tire combo fits without inteference on the front and I have measured an 11 inch rim on the rear and with the right offset can fit that.
The problem is available tire sizes from the single supplier. There are no 640 diameter tires available in widths wider than the 250. Only 280/660's are available for the rear and I can't decide if increasing the diameter will kill the gearing and negate the advantage of wider rubber. The car runs an NA 968 engine around 260hp crank.
Any thoughts? Anyone have any experience running bigger diameter tires and can comment?
