I’ve just got back from Camp4 in Finland. Only one word to describe it – Awesome!
There was one car (997 C4 or C4S auto) for every 2 people, which we had for the three days. The groups were small, and the instructor was excellent (John Paul Clinging). It was -20oC on the first day, with plenty of snow, with ice underneath.
Day 1 –We tried to learn how to start adrift by turning in, dab of brakes then getting on the power to hold it. We did this over a number of courses. I had a big off on a downhill slalom (see picture below). Very badly damaged ego, but car was fine after the cayenne towed us out![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
Day 2 – Started to get the hang of it. Some of the short sprint courses were huge fun. Quite a few others had big offs into the snow banks, but again now damage at all.
Day 3 – Managed to do three complete circuits of the drift oval in 3rd gear on full opposite lock.
Nick says he has it on film, so I’ll post in on youtube when I get it off him.
We also got to drive the new gen 2 997 C4’s with the new transmission. I must say I much prefer the gen 2 997 C4 as the 4 wheel drive actually works. There were a number of times with the gen 1 997 cars we had where the rear wheels were spinning when the car was stuck, but the front ones were not moving at all. The gen 2 cars feel a little bit like the old 964 C4 where you can feel the front end pull when it is really icy. Still no difflock like the old 964 C4 though. The new transmission seemed OK, but as we could only get up to 100km/h on the straight, I didn’t do many gear changes. The emergency start was wasted on the ice; I’d like to try it on a proper road!
The whole course was superbly organised and I can’t wait to do camp4S
