BTW,

Your program got a few good mentions throughout the show. At a couple of the booths and in the video/data seminar hosted by Motec. Nice publicity.

Chris,
I was at PRI Wednesday through Friday. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet. Good to hear that MoTeC showed TrackVision at the seminar on Saturday. I couldn't stay for Saturday, and thought they may have been pushing their new Zeetek camera/CAN bus product. Did they show the cool TrackVision ADL display video??

The Racepak booth had a major TrackVision demo showing our new integration with their Datalink II analytics, which is working very nicely and will be released in a few weeks.

Motec just did a quick mention of yours (no demo) and did push their systems 'linking' ability with cameras and synchronizing abiility as well. I was impressed with the Motec software I've never reallly played with it much and it was much 'easier' to use than I expected.

The Racepak booth demo was really good. I heard a number of people (customer type) talking about it when I was talking with guys at the booth and they really liked the integration.

No worries about missing out on a meeting, I was busier than I thought I would be meeting with people myself. It was nice that the crowd was much smaller this year.

Here's the video. Its a MoTeC i2Pro guy who used the i2Pro to TrackVision integration plus his own very cool ADL dashboard layout.

Just an update. The new HD Chasecam should be out this spring, but no exact dates yet. There will be some sort of rebate or trade-in for existing equipment. The new HD unit will be more expensive, and require more compute resource to process, so it's not for everyone. Thats all I know at this point.

Dell,

HD is nice, but if your just posting for the web, I am not sure it's really needed. Some sites like Vimeo allow HD content, but it takes so long to encode and upload all this stuff. I am not sure it's worth it really. We will have to see what the price/feature delta is.

I think the biggest improvement Chasecam could make would be using a better codec in SD, like h.264 and also recording de-interlaced.

That said, I am sure when it comes out it will be a nice unit. We have grown to love Chasecam. It's much better than the consumer-ish cameras out there in terms of ruggedness. We had one in the car for the 25 hours and it got plastered with dirt when we had an off. It was just fine and kept running no problem, never missed a beat. We blew it out with compressed air after the event and all is well.

Thanks Kenny!

While I do like to post to the web for our fellow track addicts to view, I also watch at home as a learning tool. The nice thing is that the res is good enough that when I burn to a DVD at full quality and then watch on my Blu-Ray player, the upconversion is so good that I don't think there is any benefit to swapping out for true HD.

I agree, h.264 and progressive would be great. Right now, I suck the video off the CF card to my desktop, convert from MPEG2 to MPEG4 (h.264 with AAC sound) with MPEG Streamclip (freeware) and then suck that new file into iMovie to create my DVD. What a PITA but the end result is better than dealing with windows.

With that said, anything on the horizon for Chasecam to support these wishes?

Thanks again for fantastic support AFTER the sale! Anybody can be good leading up to a sale, but your support after the sale is second to none

Dell,
All that stuff is great but for racing you really need to get the video from your car to your laptop at the track quickly and easily so you can review it with friends, coaches, etc. as soon after you come off the track as possible. If there is a second to be had it doesn't do you any good to figure that out two weeks later in your living room. Focus on simple, idiot proof, easy to watch at the track technology.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Absolutely agree Jim and I do that. I can pull the MPEG2 files onto my laptop at the track and watch them after a session. I was just commenting on the post hoc efforts.
