Default Shipping seats - recommendations?

Just picked up a set of GT3 seats and need to ship from FL to NH.

Any suggestions on the best bets for rate and service?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers~!

Not sure about the best rates these days, but for packaging I have found that the "wardrobe" boxes used by moving company packers work very well.

I used to ship from my work address, the rates were much lower than the retail rate you get by walking into the ups store.

Also check out the maximum size calculation, something like length+width+height. If you go over that number the rate doubles or triples. They seem to watch this carefully at the retail location, not so much at a business.

Most of the racing shells come in a rectangular box just about the same height and footprint as the seats, they tend to have a base that they sit in and then all the recaro's ive gotten had only cardboard bracing and a few airbags. I was shocked that they didn't get damaged, but every set I've ordered have come that way in original packaging...go figure. I'd do what bob said and get a wardrobe box, have them bubblewrapped and then packed in peanuts. To be safe I'd have them taken to a UPS store and have them wrap, box and ship it, (with insurance) so there are no issues if it shows up on your end in shambles...If they have the sliders on you can zip tie them to a base of plywood and stick all that in the box, otherwise Id have the sliders taken off as shipped seperately, it sucks to get the mounting holes torn up...

I can confirm the biz-to-biz rate deal. Trying to ship my trans from NH to OR, I was getting quotes of $400-700 from UPS, etc. Once it went biz to biz, BAX Global quoted $196.

Matt,

I just spent A LOT of time trying to do the same type of thing (but from the Midwest to Quebec). I would dare say I investigated about every option, and then settled on Navis (gonavis.com).

I had to pack them myself (although they would have done that for a fee), but they were only slightly more expensive than USPS, and about 1/4 the cost of UPS (the LEAST expensive major carrier).

I would certainly encourage getting quotes and comparing, but freight options will almost always be least expensive.

Best of luck,

Dave

Use this: http://store.uhaul.com/product_detail.aspx?id=3269

Very sturdy, solid, has an aluminum brace at the top. I shipped my RSA seats in these boxes to Canada without issues. Any carrier will take them (I used UPS).

Put them in some sort of box/container and ship them via Greyhound.

Another recommendation for Greyhound. I had a Rollbar shipped that way.

I've shipped a lot of fiberglass bumpers and hoods via Greyhound, the only problems I've had was that 2 times they didn't call the customer to tell them the package had arrived, no parts were damaged or lost. I would wrap the seats very well in foam and plastic and box them up good.

Default And the winner is...

...Andral951_S (Andy Vernot)

My dad was arranging shipping for me - he's in WPB and I am in Montreal. Walks into UPS and speaks to the manager. Andy heads out to the car to size up the seats. Lo and behold, the UPS manager is Andy!

What do you think of the seats?

Thanks buddy for looking after the packaging for me. Much appreciated. Beers on me next time I am in FL (next winter?)

Cheers~!
